An apparatus and a method for configuring antenna arrays for scalable radio frequency (RF) architecture are dis-closed. A subset of antenna arrays are grouped into K groups and a receive or transmit weight vector is applied to each of the antenna arrays in each of the K groups. A channel response is measured for each of the antenna in the K groups. The response is summed for each group and complex scaling factors are calculated based on the summed response. Based on the scaling factors the antenna weight vectors arc updated and the updated weight vectors arc applied to the antenna arrays. The steps of grouping the antennas and refining the weight vectors are performed till the antenna weight vectors reach a steady point, i.e. the current antenna weight does not improve the beamforming gain by a predetermined threshold in comparison to the previous antenna weight.

Beamforming architecture for scalable radio-frequency front end

Various techniques are provided to efficiently detect the position and angular velocity of an object relative to a compact radar system including a transmitter antenna array and a receiver antenna array. In one example, a method includes repeatedly scanning a transmitter antenna array and a receiver antenna array of an object sensing system through a plurality of designated transmitter and receiver channels over a period of time to generate a time series of measured channel responses corresponding to each one of the designated channels, determining a time series of directional vectors to or from an object scanned by at least one of the designated channels, and/or a corresponding time series of average phase differences, based, at least in part, on the time series of measured channel responses, and determining an angular velocity of the object from the time series of directional vectors and/or the corresponding time series of average phase differences.

Disclosed wireless tunneling system includes two wireless tunneling apparatuses that communicate with each other through the wireless link. A local wireless tunneling apparatus is coupled to a local processing apparatus through a wired connection and a remote wireless tunneling apparatus is coupled to the remote processing apparatus through another wired connection. The two processing apparatuses bi-directionally communicate with each other through the wireless link using the two wireless tunneling apparatuses as if the two processing apparatuses were connected through a wired connection.

An example wireless networking device includes an antenna system having a plurality of antennas; and a controller configured to select test beam antenna weight vectors (AWVs) configured to detect and/or localize a responder device, receive channel measurement responses corresponding to the test beam AWVs, determine a combined beam AWV directed substantially towards the responder device based, at least in part, on the test beam AWVs and/or the corresponding channel measurement responses, and configure the antenna sub-system to form a wireless communication channel according to the determined combined beam AWV between the wireless networking device and the responder device.

Various techniques are provided to efficiently detect the position and angular velocity of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of a UAV system including a transmitter antenna array and a receiver antenna array. In one example, a method includes establishing a wireless link between a UAV controller and a UAV using at least one transmitter antenna array and/or at least one receiver antenna array, communicating link state data corresponding to the established wireless link over the established wireless link, generating UAV operational data based, at least in part, on the link state data, wherein the UAV operational data is configured to control operation of the UAV, and controlling operation of the UAV using the UAV operational data.

Systems and methods for beam splitting using multiple antennas are disclosed. An example wireless networking device includes an antenna system having a plurality of antennas; and a controller configured to determine directional antenna weight vectors (AWVs) directed substantially towards other wireless networking devices, determine a split beam AWV from the directional AWVs, and configure the antenna sub-system to form multiple wireless communication channels over the determined split beam AWV between the wireless networking devices. A split beam formed by the wireless networking device according to the split beam AWV maximizes a minimum gain towards, or provides at least a preset threshold minimum gain towards, each of the at other wireless networking devices.

A method for transcoding data comprises receiving an input stream of data formatted according to a USB standard, the input stream is partitioned into a sequence of blocks having a fixed length. At least one input block of the input stream comprises one or more data symbols and one or more control symbols, the one or more control symbols include one or more general control symbols. The method also includes transcoding the at least one input block to generate at least one output block comprising a synchronization block and a control/data block. The control/data block comprises the one or more data symbols of the at least one input block, a representation of the one or more general control symbols of the at least one input block, and a plurality of indicators indicating locations of the one or more data symbols and control symbols in the at least one input block.

System and method for transcoding data

A transmitting apparatus for generating a phase-modulated carrier signal with on-off keying (OOK) includes a coding circuitry for receiving binary digital data and generating an on-off keying (OOK) signal representing the binary digital data. The coding circuitry generates a phase modulation control signal for controlling a phase modulation of a millimeter wave carrier signal based on the on and off pattern of the OOK signal. The apparatus also includes a phase modulation circuitry for applying the phase modulation to the millimeter wave carrier signal based on the phase modulation control signal to generate a phase-modulated carrier signal, and a power amplifier for generating, based on the OOK signal and the phase-modulated carrier signal, an amplified phase-modulated carrier signal with OOK. The apparatus includes an interface to transmit the amplified phase-modulated carrier signal with OOK to a receiving apparatus via a millimeter wave communication link.

Phase-modulated on-off keying for millimeter wave spectrum control

A method is provided for Single Carrier-Frequency-Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) format 1/1a/1b detection in a wireless communications receiver. The receiver accepts a plurality of multicarrier signals transmitted simultaneously from a plurality of transmitters, with overlapping carrier frequencies. For each multicarrier signal, a single tap measurement of time delay is performed using a Direction of Arrival (DoA) technique. In response to the single tap measurements, PUCCH 1/1/1format signals are detected. Prior to performing the single tap measurements, the multicarrier signals are decorrelated in the time domain, using corresponding orthogonal code covers. Subsequent to the single tap measurements, each multicarrier signal is decorrelated in the frequency domain, using a corresponding cyclic shift. Subsequent to decorrelating the multicarrier signals in the frequency domain, a Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test (GLRT) is performed for each decorrelated multicarrier signal.

Single carrier-frequency-division multiple access (SC-FDMA) physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) 1/1a/1b detection

A system and method are provided for Single Carrier-Frequency-Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) format 2/2a/2b detection. A receiver accepts a plurality of multicarrier signals transmitted simultaneously from a plurality of transmitters, with overlapping carrier frequencies. For each multicarrier signal, a single tap measurement of time delay is performed using a Direction of Arrival (DoA) technique. After performing a back-end processing operation, PUCCH 2/2a/2b format signals are detected. The back-end processing operation is selected from one of the following options: (1) decorrelation, channel estimation, equalization per user, and decoding per user; (2) channel estimation, equalization, and decoding per user; (3) decorrelation plus maximum likelihood detection (ML) per user; and, (4) ML detection over all users. Selection criteria is also provided.

Single carrier-frequency-division multiple access (SC-FDMA) physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) 2/2a/2b detection

A system and method are provided for Soft Interference Cancellation (SIC) in receiving Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) Multiple-Input Multiple Output (MIMO) signals. A receiver with Mr antennas accepts multicarrier signals transmitted simultaneously, with N overlapping carrier frequencies. The receiver removes a cyclic prefix (CP), and fast Fourier transforms (FFT) the multicarrier signal from each antenna, supplying Mr number of N-tone signals y. Using either parallel SIC (P-SIC) or successive SIC (S-SIC), interference is canceled in each of the Mr signals, and soft symbols are supplied for each of U layers. Interference is canceled using the P-SIC process by parallel processing the U layers in an i-th iteration, in response to feedback from an (i&#x2212;1)th iteration. Alternatively, interference is canceled using the S-SIC process by sequentially processing the U layers in an i-th iteration, in the order of u,u, . . . , u, using feedback generated from previously processed layers.
