High silica glasses exhibiting blue color by transmitted light are produced by impregnating a porous, high silica glass with a solution of cobalt, aluminum, and selected alkaline earth or alkali salts, and then consolidating the glass under oxidizing conditions to dope the glass with the corresponding oxides. The tinted glass has particular utility as a blue filter for lighting applications.

Blue high silica glass

A yellow color by transmitted light is produced in a high silica glass by impregnating a porous, high silica glass with a solution of chromium and zinc salts and consolidating the glass under oxidizing conditions to dope the glass with chromium and zinc oxides, the chromium being predominantly in the hexavalent state. Optionally, an aluminum salt is included in the impregnating solution. The glass has particular utility as a filter for lighting purposes.

Yellow high silica glass

A non-melted, non-powder concentrated colorant material consists essentially of a flux that is not over 30% by weight of an alkali metal borate, a binder that is an alkali metal silicate and 35-60% V.sub.2 O.sub.5. The flux, binder and colorant oxide constitute at least 90% of the composition. A method of producing a black glass-ceramic material comprises forming the colorant material into particles and adding the particles to a precursor glass for the glass-ceramic while the glass is passing through the forehearth of a glass tank in a molten state.

Forehearth colorant

This invention relates to coatings for application to glass lenses to provide a tint thereto. The coatings at a thickness of no more than 10 microns in conjunction with organic dyes conventionally used to tint organic plastic lenses will impart a visible transmission of less than 50%, preferably less than 30%. The coatings consist essentially of an alkyl siloxane containing a dipolar silane selected from the group consisting of an ester-functional silane, a hydroxy-functional silane, amino-functional silane, a carboxylic acid-functional silane, and a halide form of those silanes.

Tintable coatings for glass ophthalmic lenses

There is disclosed a family of low dielectric, copper-exuding, boroaluminosilicate glasses particularly adapted to use in forming substrates for electronic devices such as integrated circuits. The glasses are capable of exuding copper oxide, have a coefficient of thermal expansion of 30-35.times.10.sup.-7 at 300.degree. C., a dielectric constant not over 5.0 at 100 KHz, a loss tangent not over 0.003 at 100 KHz and consist essentially, in percent by weight, of 56-64% SiO.sub.2 18-25% B.sub.2 O.sub.3, 3-11% Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0-2% CaO, 0-2% Li.sub.2 O, 0-1% K.sub.2 O, the Li.sub.2 O+K.sub.2 O+CaO being 1.5-3% and 1-20% CuO.

Copper-exuding boroaluminosilicate glasses
