In one embodiment, a dual-mode power amplifier that can operate in different modes includes: a first pair of metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) to receive and pass a constant envelope signal; a second pair of MOSFETs to receive and pass a variable envelope signal, where first terminals of the first pair of MOSFETs are coupled to first terminals of the second pair of MOSFETs, and second terminals of the first pair of MOSFETs are coupled to. second terminals of the second pair of MOSFETs; and a shared MOSFET stack coupled to the first pair of MOSFETs and the second pair of MOSFETs.

Dual-mode power amplifier for wireless communication

Systems and methods are disclosed for on-chip harmonic filtering for radio frequency (RF) communications. For disclosed embodiments, a filter circuit is coupled between a first internal node and a connection pad for an integrated circuit. The filter circuit includes a first inductance, a variable capacitance, and a second inductance. The capacitance amount for the variable capacitance is controlled to tune filtering for the filter circuit to a harmonic of a frequency for a transmit output signal. A power amplifier outputs the transmit output signal to the connection pad without passing through the filter circuit. The filter circuit filters the harmonic of the frequency for the transmit output signal, shunting harmonic current to ground. For one embodiment, the filtered harmonic is a third harmonic of the transmit frequency. For one embodiment, the transmit output signal has an output power greater than or equal to 15 dBm.

Harmonic filtering for high power radio frequency (RF) communications

In one form, a signal generator system such as a power amplifier system includes an amplification stage, a lowpass filter, and a controller. The amplification stage includes a first amplifier having an input for receiving an input signal, a control input for receiving a first control signal, and an output. The lowpass filter has a first input coupled to the output of the first amplifier, and an output. The controller has a first input coupled to the output of the lowpass filter, and a first output coupled to the control input of the first amplifier, wherein the controller varies the first control signal to reduce a difference between the output of the lowpass filter and a first target voltage level.

System and method for reducing output harmonics

In one form, a power amplifier system includes first and second amplification path, and a combination element. The first amplification path has an input for receiving a drive signal, and an output. The second amplification path has an input coupled to the input of the first amplification path, and an output. The second amplification path has a delay element that inserts a signal path delay with respect to the first amplification path, wherein the delay element has a delay corresponding to a harmonic that is desired to be reduced. The combination element is coupled to the output of the first amplification path and an output of the second amplification path, and provides an output signal as a sum of outputs of the first amplification path and the second amplification path.

In an embodiment, an apparatus includes: a transmit circuit to upconvert a baseband signal to a first differential radio frequency (RF) signal, the transmit circuit to convert the first differential RF signal to a first single-ended RF signal; a duty cycle correction circuit coupled to the transmit circuit to receive the first single-ended RF signal and compensate for a duty cycle variation in the first single-ended RF signal to output a duty cycle-corrected RF signal; a conversion circuit to convert the duty cycle-corrected RF signal to a second differential RF signal; and an interface circuit to transfer the second differential RF signal from a first ground domain to a second ground domain.

A radio frequency (RF) receiver with frequency planning includes an analog receiver, a digital processor, and a clock synthesizer. The analog receiver has an input for receiving an RF input signal, and an output for providing a digital intermediate frequency (IF) signal. The digital processor has a first input for receiving the digital IF signal, a second input for receiving a clock signal, a signal output for providing an IF output signal, and a control output for providing a clock control signal. The clock synthesizer has an input for receiving the clock control signal, and an output for providing the clock signal, and is controllable to adjust a frequency of the clock signal to a selected one of a predetermined number of frequencies within a predetermined frequency range in response to the clock control signal.

Radio frequency (RF) receiver with frequency planning and method therefor

A frequency synthesizer includes a controlled oscillator configured to extend a temperature range and phase noise of the synthesizer without compromising the frequency coverage of the synthesizer. The frequency synthesizer also includes bias generation circuitry that sets a bias current of a charge pump to reduce bandwidth variations of the synthesizer. The frequency synthesizer further includes switching circuitry to dynamically turn a charge pump on and off to reduce effects of current leakage in the charge pump.

A shielded differential inductor forms a high quality factor (high-Q) inductor that is configured to attenuate frequency spurs and/or noise from magnetic coupling generated by electrical structures on or off of a substrate as well as interference received by other components from magnetic coupling generated by the inductor. The shielded differential inductor includes a differential inductor and a shield that substantially isolates the electrical field between the inductor and the substrate to reduce substrate current loss. The shield includes sets of finger structures that extend beyond the width of the inductor and a hub and spoke configuration of ground conductors that connect the sets of finger structures to ground.

A test signal is selectively output from a selected pin in the test mode indicative of the operation of the internal block, wherein the selected pin is utilized for exchanging another signal when the integrated circuit is in the another operating mode.

A signal processing integrated circuit has having a chopper stabilized, multistage, feedforward amplifier and a delta sigma analog to digital converter. Filtering of the output of the output from the analog to digital converter comprises a sincfilter and a sincfilter. The sincfilter may be bypassed. A rough buffer permits quick charging of a sample and hold capacitor during part of the charge cycle and slower but more accurate charging during the remainder of the charge cycle.

A method of testing an integrated circuit includes setting a guardbanded limit for a parameter associated with an embedded node, a deviation from the guardbanded limit under a set of test conditions correlated with a failure of the integrated circuit across a range of operating conditions. A test is performed under the test conditions to detect deviations of the parameter from the guardbanded limit to detect failures of the integrated circuit over the range of operating conditions.
