A data processing system generates recommendations for on-line shopping by scoring recommendations matching the customer's cart contents product page, configuration page, email and/or history using predetermined scoring criteria, such as item availability, item price, relevance of the item to the customer, item clarity, item exposure, total purchase amount in the cart, margin, recommendation confidence and lift, shopper profile matches, seasonality, customer history, time dependency, product marketing emphasis, substitutability, item popularity and/or product attributes associated with the recommended item. The scored recommendations may be ranked and/or filtered to prioritize the recommendations so that the best recommendation is selected for presentation to the customer. In addition, one or more scoring criteria or product attributes for the recommended item may be used to select a specific selling point/message text for inclusion with the selected recommendation.

System and method for generating effective recommendations

A data processing system normalizes data sets (such as low-resolution transaction data) into high-resolution data sets by mapping generic information into attribute-based specific information that is stored in a database. By establishing a shared domain model for representing items in the recommendation context, catalog and quote history with common terms and concepts, a recommendation engine operating in the shared domain may process the attribute-based representations to make specific and relevant recommendations to the customer. In addition, when certain attribute values are normalized over time, recommendations derived from past order history can be intelligently applied to current orders. The normalized representation of elements in the shared domain may also be used to generate compelling selling point text for each recommendation that is specific to the marketing objectives of the seller and identifies the objectives of the buyer.

Retail recommendation domain model

A method provides customized voice mail settings feature information to a telecommunications service subscriber. The method includes customizing a list of persistent settings features to include multiple persistent settings features that relate to telecommunications services subscribed to by the telecommunications service subscriber. The persistent settings features are maintained in a defined state through more than one subscriber session. The subscriber is sequentially prompted to select a persistent settings feature from the customized list by sequentially playing each of the persistent settings features to the subscriber.

Voice mail interface

A method and system for providing an interface that allows navigation and display of a directed graph are provided. The interface provides visualization of an underlying graph structure comprising a plurality of hierarchies with shared common nodes, wherein the hierarchies do not necessarily share the exhaustive child-tree of the common node. The method provides for the interface to display a focus node, parent nodes (if any) of the focus node, and in-context children (if any) of the focus node. In a preferred embodiment, the displays of focus, parent, and in-context child nodes are textual displays rather than graphical node-link displays.

System and method for an interface to provide visualization and navigation of a directed graph

A method for interfacing a subscriber to a voice mail component of a telecommunications system is provided. The method includes playing messages to the subscriber when the subscriber is in a message review area and providing a plurality of functions to the subscriber while the messages are playing and including an option of accessing a settings area. The method further includes placing the subscriber in a settings area in response to a subscriber's command and sequentially listing a series of persistent settings features when the subscriber is in the settings area.

An interface to a voice mail system includes a message review area from where messages are played to a subscriber and a settings area. The message review area is immediately accessed when the subscriber enters the voice mail system. The settings area is accessed from the message review area when the subscriber enters a predetermined command. Settings features are sequentially accessed from the settings area. Functions directly available from the message review area are also provided.
