Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for selectively activating a fingerprint sensor in an electronic device. A method that may be performed by the electronic device includes detecting a finger hover above the display module, activating the fingerprint sensor based, at least in part, on the detected finger hover, and providing, in response to detecting the finger hover, feedback information to assist in scanning the finger using the fingerprint sensor.

Selective fingerprint sensor activation

Systems, methods and apparatus for configuring a fingerprint sensor to operate in a capacitive sensing mode and an ultrasonic sensing mode are disclosed. A fingerprint sensor may be configured to operate in a capacitive sensing mode by driving a sensing electrode using a controller. In some implementations, an object positioned on or near the sensing electrode may be detected using the fingerprint sensor in the capacitive sensing mode, and the controller can drive electrodes of the fingerprint sensor differently to configure the fingerprint sensor to operate in an ultrasonic sensing mode. In some implementations, an applications processor may be instructed to authenticate a fingerprint of the object from image data obtained when the fingerprint sensor is operating in the ultrasonic sensing mode. In some implementations, a display of a mobile device containing the fingerprint sensor may be unlocked, or the mobile device may be woken up when the fingerprint is authenticated.

Hybrid capacitive and ultrasonic sensing

Some aspects of the present application include a wearable, see-through display device. The device includes a source of video information and a micro-display configured to receive video information from the source of video information and to project light forming an image based on the video information. The device also includes a lens system comprising one or more lenses, the lens system configured to receive and collimate light from the micro-display and to propagate the light from the micro-display to an image guide and the image guide positioned to receive light from the lens system and direct the received light to a partial reflector. The device also includes a partial reflector configured to reflect the light received from the image guide out of the display device towards a place where an eye of a user wearing the see-through display device may be positioned.

Method and apparatus for see-through near eye display

Sensor data from a sensor system of a mobile device may be used for determining a level of pressure exerted by a user on the mobile device. The sensor system may include one or more types of sensors, such as a microphone and one or more inertial sensors. The inertial sensors may include one or more gyroscopes and/or accelerometers. Based on the inertial sensor data, it may be determined whether and/or how the mobile device is being held. A process for determining a level of pressure exerted by a user on the mobile device may be adapted based, at least in part, on whether and/or how the mobile device is being held. The pressure-determining process may be adapted according to various other criteria, such as a position of a touch target in a display, ambient noise levels, etc.

Optimizing the use of sensors to improve pressure sensing

Techniques for testing ultrasonic fingerprint sensors include operating a fingerprint impress simulator that may cyclically press a contact pad of the simulator against a platen of an ultrasonic sensor under test. A control electronics arrangement may operate the ultrasonic sensor under test and the fingerprint impress simulator, and may receive ultrasonic image data from the ultrasonic sensor under test. The ultrasonic sensor may include an ultrasonic transmitter and an ultrasonic sensor array disposed between the ultrasonic transmitter and the platen. The control electronics arrangement may cause the ultrasonic transmitter to emit an ultrasonic pulse, and may receive ultrasonic image data from the ultrasonic sensor array, the ultrasonic image data being converted from a detected portion of the ultrasonic pulse.

Test techniques for assessing ultrasonic fingerprint sensors

Systems and methods for automatically controlling an electronic device based on whether or not a headset is in a listening position are described. The existing wired stereo headset conductors may be used to provide power to a sensor and hardware subsystem within the headset. In some aspects, a sensor-enabled headset or headphones can sense whether each earbud of the headset is placed in the user's ears and communicate that information to an electronic device.
