A wheel supported sweeping machine includes a hopper which is movable between operating and non-operating positions and a conveyor which is adjacent the hopper and is similarly movable between a lower operating position and a raised non-operating position. There is a cylindrical brush mounted on the frame which directs debris into the conveyor, with the conveyor raising the debris for deposit into an opening in the upper end of the hopper, which is aligned with a similar opening in the conveyor. At times, debris may fall into the space between the conveyor enclosure and hopper. A debris collecting ramp is located beneath the hopper and extends upwardly and rearwardly toward the hopper from the conveyor enclosure. There is a seal between the ramp and conveyor enclosure which prevents debris from falling downwardly until the conveyor enclosure has been raised, at which time, the debris will be deposited by the ramp through a lower opening in the conveyor enclosure to an area in the front of the brush.

This invention is concerned with a sweeper, meaning a sweeper with a rotary main brush opposite a hopper, and increasing its ability to load light debris, such as paper, dry leaves and the like so that light debris will be propelled farther into the debris hopper. This is done by setting the speed of the main brush at a lower speed for normal operation to effectively throw what may be thought of as heavier material, such as sand, forwardly into the hopper with the speed being such that excessive wear of the brush is avoided and a higher speed of rotation being effected from time to time so that paper, dry leaves and the like, which may be considered lightweight material, are thrown farther into the hopper with the increased speed of the main brush overcoming the air resistance that normally stops such lightweight material which, at normal operation of the brush, tends to pile up in the rear of the hopper. The sweeper uses a vacuum fan to create a suction in the hopper with the vacuum fan also being speeded up with the brush speed increase which assists in loading the lightweight debris in the hopper. Since the increased speed is used for the main brush and vacuum fan only from time to time when light debris is encountered and on a limited basis, the increased brush wear and power consumption caused thereby is tolerable.

Surface maintenance equipment is disclosed including mechanism for moving an airstream therethrough and a filtering device for cleaning the airstream prior to discharge into the atmosphere. The filtering device includes a conventional filter and a screen. The screen removes larger airborne pieces such as grass clippings.

An overload warning system for an industrial lift truck including a fluid supported rear suspension, pressure responsive switches communicating with the fluid suspension, and a mast height sensor. One pressure switch is actuatable by a first preset pressure in the fluid suspension to signal the presence of a lift overload with the lift mast retracted. The other pressure switch is actuable by a second preset pressure in the fluid suspension and coacts with the mast height sensor to signal the presence of a lift overload with the lift mast extended.

A versatile mobile high lift loader characterized by an extendible telescopic boom carried by a longitudinally extendible transfer carriage. The transfer carriage travels on stepped fore and aft longitudinal transfer rails for greater operator visibility. The transfer rails are stepped laterally to provide for maximum width of the operator compartment and to permit the use of dual front wheels. The transfer carriage and boom extension travel on cam roller non-friction bearings for cycling demands of the fork lift transferring boom. The transfer rails include readily replaceable hardened wear surfaces on a unitized frame. The loader includes modular drive train fabrication for less expensive manufacturing cost and easier servicing. It is provided with drive line disc brakes and locking differential for easy servicing, non-power assist and positive braking with and without load. The telescoping boom includes a novel hose reel assembly for transfer of internal hosing within the boom. The telescoping boom segments travel on readily replaceable hardened rails that also serve to give outer fiber strength and buckling resistance. The boom may be fitted with a fork lift or crane hook or similar work performing means, dependent upon need. The load handling mechanism can be retracted behind the front wheels for close approach to buildings. Load transfer is by pure horizontal motion.
