Described are techniques for distributing audio data to multiple audio devices for generation of a synchronized audio output. A master device may receive audio data from a content server or other remote data source and store the audio data in a local cache. The master device may provide the audio data to multiple slave devices using a single multicast transmission. In some cases, the master device may also provide the audio data to individual slave devices unable to receive the multicast transmission using a network connection. Each slave device may store the audio data in a local cache. To generate the audio output, each audio device may retrieve the audio data from the associated local cache, which may enable the audio data to be distributed without modifying the commands used by audio applications to generate the audio output.

System for distributing audio output using multiple devices

Described are techniques for configuring a group of devices to distribute and receive data in a manner that reduces consumption of network resources. A larger group of devices may be divided into subsets of devices, each subset including a master device that provides data to multiple slave devices via a multicast transmission. A master device may be determined based on the respective signal quality between the audio devices and an access point, and the number of other audio devices to which each respective audio device may provide data. Other devices having respective signal quality for communication with the master device that exceeds a threshold may be designated as slave devices. Once a first subset is formed, the remaining devices may be grouped into additional subsets. Remaining devices that are not a part of any subset may receive data via communication with an access point.

System for configuring audio devices to distribute audio data

A group of computing devices use a wireless channel for communication, resulting in congestion. Within that group, some devices may need to exchange time sensitive application data, such as data indicative of control inputs received from a user. A destination device may transmit a clear to send (CTS) frame over the channel that indicates a CTS interval indicative of a time to suspend transmission. Other computing devices respond to the CTS frame by suspending transmission for the specified CTS interval. However, a source device in the group of many computing devices receives the CTS frame and initiates transmission of application data instead of suspending transmission. As a result, the source device transmits while other computing devices are not transmitting. In some implementations a beacon frame may be transmitted before a CTS frame. The destination device may confirm receipt of the application data by transmitting an acknowledgement to the source device.

System to facilitate data transfer in wireless networks

Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for allowing a mobile device to roam from a first frequency band to a second frequency band for a dual band access point when a signal strength associated with the first frequency band improves. For example, the mobile device may store a first signal strength associated with the first frequency band when the mobile device first connects to the first frequency band and may monitor subsequent signal strengths to determine if they exceed the first signal strength. When a subsequent signal strength exceeds the first signal strength, the mobile device may use this as an indication that the mobile device is closer to the access point and within range of the second frequency band. The mobile device may then detect and connect to the second frequency band.

Frequency acquisition during roaming

Approaches enable a device capable of wireless communication, such as a device having a wireless adapter, to automatically select and connect to an available wireless access point (AP) having favorable performance, security, and/or other attributes that may be ascertained through various parameters, despite the wireless AP not being the last-known and/or last-connected-to wireless AP. The wireless-enabled device may determine the wireless AP to connect to in a number of ways, such as by determining all available wireless APs in the vicinity of the device and identifying, ranking and/or scoring the parameters for some or all of the available wireless APs to determine a ranking of the wireless APs. Once a favorable wireless AP is identified, the device may automatically attempt to connect to the wireless AP. If the wireless AP is not available, the device may automatically attempt to connect to the next wireless AP in the ranked list, etc.

Automated wireless access point selection

Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for allowing a mobile device to connect to a network based on data rates. For example, the mobile device may select from available networks based on data rates associated with the available networks. In addition, the mobile device may determine to roam from a current network based on data rates. For example, the mobile device may roam when an expected throughput exceeds an actual throughput or when an anticipated throughput requirement exceeds the actual throughput.
