The subject matter described herein presents various technical solutions for the technical problems facing autonomous vehicles (e.g., fully autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles). To address technical problems facing wireless communication cost and latency, a heterogeneous roadside infrastructure can be used to improve the ability for a vehicle to communicate with a data source. To address technical problems facing interruption of vehicle services due to an abrupt loss of connection, a quality of service system provides the ability to determine and share quality of service information, such as location-based information, maps, interference data, and other quality of service information. To address technical problems facing high volume data upload and download between autonomous vehicles and cloud-based data services, optical wireless communication (OWC) provides increased data throughput and reduced complexity and may be beneficial for short-range high-mobility wireless communications.

Systems and methods for autonomous vehicle communication

According to various embodiments, a radar device is described comprising a processor configured to generate a scene comprising an object based on a plurality of receive wireless signals, generate a ground truth object parameter of the object and generate a dataset representative of the scene and a radar detector configured to determine an object parameter of the object using a machine learning algorithm and the dataset, determine an error value of the machine learning algorithm using a cost function, the object parameter, and the ground truth object parameter and adjust the machine learning algorithm values to reduce the error value.

Some demonstrative aspects include radar apparatuses, devices, systems and methods. In one example, an apparatus may include a plurality of Transmit (Tx) antennas to transmit radar Tx signals, and a plurality of Receive (Rx) antennas to receive radar Rx signals. For example, the radar Rx signals may be based on the radar Tx signals. The apparatus may be implemented, for example, as part of a radar device, for example, as part of a vehicle including the radar device. In other aspects, the apparatus may include any other additional or alternative elements and/or may be implemented as part of any other device.

Radar apparatus, system, and method

For example, an apparatus may include a radar, the radar may include a reconfigurable radio configured, based on a plurality of reconfigurable radio parameters, to transmit a plurality of Transmit (Tx) radar signals via a plurality of Tx antennas, to receive via a plurality of Receive (Rx) antennas a plurality of Rx radar signals based on the plurality of Tx radar signals, and to provide digital radar samples based on the Rx radar signals; a radar perception processor configured to generate radar perception data based on the digital radar samples, the radar perception data representing semantic information of an environment of the radar; and a feedback controller to configure the plurality of reconfigurable radio parameters based on the radar perception data, and to feedback the reconfigurable radio parameters to the reconfigurable radio.

Apparatus, system and method of generating radar perception data

A lens antenna system is disclosed. The lens antenna system comprises a hybrid focal source antenna circuit configured to generate a source antenna beam for integration with different lens structures. In some embodiments, the hybrid focal source antenna circuit comprises a set of antenna elements coupled to one another. In some embodiments, the set of antenna elements comprises a first antenna element configured to be excited in a first spherical mode; and a second antenna element configured to be excited in a second, different, spherical mode. In some embodiments, the first spherical mode and the second spherical mode are co-polarized. In some embodiments, the lens antenna system further comprises a lens configured to shape the source antenna beam associated with the hybrid focal source antenna circuit, in order to provide an output antenna beam.

High performance lens antenna systems

A high gain non-mechanical steerable beamforming antenna is provided together with a system implementing the antenna. The steerable beamforming antenna uses a reflectarray structure in conjunction with a phased array antenna element configuration. The antenna elements may include micro particle arrays (MPAs), having a number of micro particles disposed thereon. The micro particles may be implemented as graphene elements or as plasmonic elements having a sufficiently high electron mobility and an electron carrier density that is controlled as a function of an applied electronic tuning signal. The change in electron carrier density of the MPA elements, in turn, causes a phase change in incident waves provided by a source feed, facilitating steering of a main beam of an antenna pattern associated with the reflected incident waves.

Steerable antenna array

Techniques are disclosed for particulate matter (PM) measurement in a medium (such as air) using flat-top intensity laser sheet beam generation. The techniques for generating the laser sheet beam may include nonspecialized optical elements (e.g., aspherical, spherical, biconvex, and/or cylindrical lenses) that are cost-effective, reduce the overall footprint of the system, and also provide for relatively increased power efficiencies compared to conventional techniques. The PM measurement system may use the laser sheet beam generated in combination with a medium flow channel to pass the medium through the laser sheet beam, thereby causing particulates within the medium to scatter light, which can be detected using a light sensor (e.g., a photodetector). The scattered light signals can then be analyzed to match them with corresponding particulate sizes and the amount of signals per particulate size can also be determined to measure the size and count of particulates within the medium.

Particulate matter measurement using light sheet generation and scattering analysis

Systems and techniques are disclosed for flat-top intensity laser sheet beam generation. The system includes a source of light directed at a first optical component arranged to receive the light and generate spherical aberration (e.g., third order positive aberration) in the light rays. The spherical aberration results in positive aberrations in the light in a first plane and also results in the light being substantially collimated in a second plane perpendicular to the first plane. In some cases, the source of light is provided from a laser diode and the first optical component is one of an aspherical lens and a spherical lens. The system also includes a second optical component for focusing the light in the second plane. In some cases, the second optical component is a cylindrical lens.

System for flat-top intensity laser sheet beam generation

Techniques and mechanisms for a monolithic photonic integrated circuit (PIC) to provide spectrometry functionality. In an embodiment, the PIC comprises a photonic device, a first waveguide and a second waveguide, wherein one of the first waveguide and the second waveguide includes a released portion which is free to move relative to a substrate of the PIC. During a metering cycle to evaluate a material under test, control logic operates an actuator to successively configure a plurality of positions of the released portion relative to the photonic device. In another embodiment, light from the first waveguide is variously diffracted by a grating of the photonic device during the metering cycle, where portions of the light are directed into the second waveguide. Different wavelengths of light diffracted into the second waveguide may be successively detected, for different positions of the released portion, to determine spectrometric measurements over a range of wavelength.

Apparatus, method and system for spectrometry with a displaceable waveguide structure

Technologies for generating a broadband optical output include a plurality of narrowband optical sources formed in a silicon substrate to generate a narrowband optical output, a plurality of input optical waveguides to route the narrowband optical output, an optical multiplexer formed in the silicon substrate to reflect the routed narrowband optical output, and an output optical waveguide to collect the reflected narrowband optical output to generate the broadband optical output. The output optical waveguide may route the broadband optical output to an output of the photonic integrated circuit.

Support for a beam splitter

A tunable laser configured in a small package coupled to a printed circuit board. The tunable laser includes a housing with a volume formed by exterior walls. An electrical input interface is positioned at the first end of the housing. An optical output interface is positioned at the second end of the housing and configured to transmit a continuous wave optical beam. A beam splitter and photodiode is disposed in the path of the laser beam for determining the emitted intensity of the laser beam, and an optical isolator is positioned downstream of the beam splitter to prevent the incoming light from the beam splitter from reflecting back though the beam splitter and into the cavity of the laser.

According to one embodiment, the present application includes a tunable laser configured in a small package. The tunable laser includes a housing with a volume formed by exterior walls. An electrical input interface is positioned at the first end of the housing and configured to receive an information-containing electrical signal. An optical output interface is positioned at the second end of the housing and configured to transmit a continuous wave optical beam. A tunable semiconductor laser is positioned in the interior space and operable to emit a laser beam having a selectable wavelength. A focusing lens assembly is positioned in the interior space along an optical path of the laser beam to operatively couple the laser beam to the optical output interface.
