An electronic system for controlling a power converter having an active clamping circuit includes a current sensor configured to sense current through a primary side of a transformer within the power converter, and a comparator sub-system. The comparator sub-system is configured to receive a transformer current signal from the current sensor and generate a trip signal based on a difference between the transformer current signal and a reference signal. The electronic system also includes a pulse width modulator configured to generate a gate input signal for the active clamping circuit based at least in part on the trip signal.

Circuit and system for the protection of primary transistors in power converters with active clamping

A power supply system includes an input stage comprising first and second input switches to provide a primary current responsive first and second input switching signals. A transformer generates a secondary current responsive to the primary current. An output stage comprises an output, a first output switch, a second output switch and a clamping switch. The output stage can be configured to generate an output voltage at the output by rectifying the secondary current responsive to respective first and second output switching signals. The clamping switch can be configured to close responsive to a clamp switching signal during an activation dead-time between closing the first input switch and the second input switch. The system further includes a switching controller configured to generate the first and second input switching signals and the first and second output switching signals based on the output voltage, and to generate the clamp switching signal.

Power supply system with active clamping

For predictive synchronous rectifier sensing and control, an example apparatus includes an air core toroid having a voltage output, the air core toroid adapted to surround a portion of a current path and adapted to be coupled through the current path to a transformer, and a control logic circuit having a voltage input and a control output, the voltage input coupled to the voltage output, and the control output adapted to be coupled to a switch.

Predictive synchronous rectifier sensing and control

Apparatus providing an integrated transformer are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a power conversion system including a switching circuit including a first primary side transistor coupled between a first input node and a switching node, and a second primary side transistor coupled between the switching node and a second input node, a series circuit including a transformer primary winding, a capacitor, and an inductor coupled in series between the switching node and the second input node, a transformer secondary circuit including a first transformer secondary winding and a second transformer secondary winding, the first and the second transformer secondary windings electrically between a first converter output and a second converter output, the transformer primary winding and the transformer secondary windings wound around at least a portion of a corresponding one of a transformer core in an infinity winding arrangement.
