A method may include receiving a stream of datagrams, the datagrams having a first bit length. The method may also include selecting a block of bits from consecutively-received datagrams, the block having a second bit length greater than the first bit length. The method may additionally include determining whether a particular data field is present at a particular bit position within the block. The method may further include outputting the block as a valid block in response to determining that the particular data field is present at the particular bit position. The method may additionally include, in response to determining that the particular data field is not present at the particular bit position: discarding a received datagram from the stream of datagrams; and repeating the receiving, selecting, determining, and discarding steps until a determination is made that the particular data field is present at the particular bit position.

Methods and systems for block alignment in a communication system

A communication network access device is adapted for duplex communication and provides transmit and receive signal paths. A controllable socket is coupled to the transmit and receive signal paths and linked to a control interface for activating/deactivating the control interface. A pluggable module is coupled to the transmit and receive signal paths via the controllable socket in an activated status and to a transmission path carrying uni-directional signals. The module includes a first optical device and a splitter in the transmission path and is coupled to a second optical device via the splitter. The second optical device responds to a portion of uni-directional signals provided by the splitter for placing the communication access device in a link up condition for uni-directional signals provided by the first optical device to the transmission path serving an optical local area network.

Device and method to allow for uni-directional traffic on local area networks

A hash function for a MAC bridge filter that improves bridge performance by reducing overflow of the MAC bridge database and which reduces cost of the device by using relatively few hardware resources. A CRC hash function is used to randomize the search string in the MAC bridge filter so that a consistent bridge performance is achieved regardless of where the bridge is used. Using the CRC as a hash function also results in efficient hardware implementation. In addition, the present invention may be generalized to use a CRC-M as hash function for any bridge filter design.

Using CRC-15 as hash function for MAC bridge filter design

EMI emissions generated by clock signals in a multi-slot electronic system are reduced by providing out-of-phase clock signals to alternate slots, which cause EMI emissions at typical testing distances and farther to be reduced. An electronic equipment comprises a plurality of slots, each slot operable to receive a clock signal and a plurality of phases of the clock signal, wherein a first phase of the clock signal is routed to a portion of the slots and a second phase of the clock signal is routed to a different portion of the slots. The second phase of the clock signal may be substantially 180&#xb0; out-of-phase with the first phase of the clock signal.
