A document processing system and method includes a first document processing device configured to send a job completion notification subscription, user account information, charge account information, and usage restriction information to a second document processing device, and in response receive job usage information from the second document processing device for each document processing operation completed by the second document processing device, such as printing, scanning, photocopying, and faxing. The first document processing device updates the user account, charge account, and usage restriction information based on the received job usage information, and sends updated user account, charge account, and usage restriction information to the second document processing device.

Embedded job accounting system and method

Systems and methods for a device connected to a private network to efficiently retrieve a software/firmware update. The device may retrieve an update scheme that defines an external Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) for a resource external to the private network and a primary URI for a primary resource connected to the private network. The device may compare own Internet Protocol address and the primary URI to determine whether or not the device is the primary resource. When the device is the primary resource, the device may retrieve the software/firmware update from the external URI.

Efficiently updating multiple devices on a private network

There is disclosed a method of, mobile device for and apparatus for using a mobile device to actuate a multifunction peripheral device using near field communication. The mobile device includes a user interface for receiving a selection of an electronic document and instructions regarding a selected document processing operation to be performed by the multifunction peripheral and for receiving a selection of an electronic address to which the electronic document is to be directed by the multifunction peripheral. The mobile device also includes a first near field communications transceiver for receiving input indicating that the mobile device is within range of a second near field communication transceiver, for receiving communication, at the first near field transceiver from the second near field communication transceiver, indicating that the first near field communication transceiver is ready to accept the electronic document, instructions pertaining to the selected document processing operation, and the electronic address.

Mobile device implementing near field communication to print with multifunction peripheral device

The subject application is directed to a system and method for user-specific discovery and initiation of a default document processing device. First, a computing device is placed in data communication with an associated data network. Device data corresponding to document processing devices accessible by the computing device is then retrieved. Via the associated data network, data communication is established between the computing device and the document processing devices. The relative location between the computing device and each of the document processing devices is then determined according to the established data communication. A default document processing device subset is thereafter selected from the available document processing devices based upon the determined location. Operation of the document processing device subset is then enabled via the computing device.

System and method for user-specific discovery and initiation of a default document processing device

The subject application is directed to a system and method for securing remote administrative access to a processing device. Incoming data packets, including source data, destination data, and a data portion for administrative control of a processing device are received at a designated port associated with administrative control. Binary mask data defining an address space from which control is acceptable is then received. Binary reference address data representing an address with an address range within the address space is received. A first binary value is generated via a comparison of the reference data and the mask data. A second binary value is generated via a comparison of an incoming data packet and the mask data. The acceptability of the packet is determined based on comparing the first value with the second value. Processing of received administrative control by the processing device is then selectively commenced based on the value comparison.

System and method for securing remote administrative access to a processing device

A method is disclosed including the steps of submitting a print job to a network printer and identifying a specific printer controller governing the print job. The method further includes loading a set of identifiers respective to a specific printer controller and selecting from the set a respective identifier corresponding to the type of print job employed on the specific printer controller. The selected identifier is used to issue the predetermined type of notification from the controller.
