A slickline that includes both electrically conductive and fiber optic capacity. The slickline includes a fiber optic thread or bundle of threads that may be surrounded by an electrically conductive member such as split half shells of copper elements. Further, these features may be disposed in a filler matrix so as to provide a cohesiveness the core of the slickline. So, for example, the line may be more effectively utilized in downhole applications such as coiled tubing operations, without undue concern over collapse or pinhole issues emerging in the line.

Electrically conductive fiber optic slickline for coiled tubing operations

A wireline cable includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power. The wireline cable further includes an inner layer of a plurality of first armor wires surrounding the cable core and an outer layer of a plurality of second armor wires surrounding the inner layer, wherein a diameter of the outer layer of the plurality of second armor wires is smaller than a diameter of the inner layer of the plurality of first armor wires.

Reduced torque wireline cable

A smooth torque balanced cable that includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power. The smooth torque balanced cable also has a first polymer surrounding said cable core. An inner layer of a plurality of first armor wires surrounds the cable core. The first armor wires being in partial contact with the first polymer and partial contact with a second polymer disposed opposite the first polymer.

Torque-balanced, gas-sealed wireline cables

A cable that has a cable core with a first armor wire layer and a second armor wire layer. The second armor wire layer is segregated from the first armor wire layer, and an outer jacket is disposed about the second armor wire layer.

Downhole cable and method of making a downhole cable

A method of manufacturing a jacketed metal line is detailed herein. The method of manufacturing a jacketed metal line can include roughening an outer surface of a metal core of the line. An insulating polymer layer can be applied to the metal core, and the insulating polymer layer can include a reinforcing additive comprising: graphite, carbon, glass, aramid, short-fiber filled PolyEtherEtherKetone, mircron-sized polytetrafluoroethylene, or combinations thereof. The roughened metal core can then be exposed a heat source for at least partially melting the polymer layer; and the partially melted polymer layer and insulated roughened metal core can be ran through a set of shaping rollers.

Manufacturing techniques for a jacketed metal line

A method and method of using a cable that includes a cable core. The cable core has an inner armor wire layer disposed thereabout. The inner armor wire layer has an outer armor wire layer disposed thereabout. The inner armor wire layer and outer armor wire layer have torque removed therefrom during manufacturing.

Packoff seals and processes for using same. In some examples, the packoff seal can include a first end cap and a second end cap, a first insert and a second insert, a first deformable element disposed between the first end cap and the first insert, a second deformable element disposed between the second insert and the second end cap, and a third deformable element disposed between the first insert and the second insert. The first end cap, the first deformable element, the first insert, the third deformable element, the second insert, the second deformable element, and the second end cap together can form a body having a bore extending therethrough. The first deformable element, the second deformable element, and the third deformable element can have a compressive strength that is less than a compressive strength of the first and second inserts.

Packoff seals and processes for using same

The present disclosure relates to a cable that includes a core, a first armor wire layer surrounding the core, a first polymer layer disposed around the first armor wire layer, where the first polymer layer has a first sensitivity to energy emitted from an energy source, a second armor wire layer that may be disposed at least partially in the first polymer layer, and a second polymer layer disposed around the second armor wire layer, where the second polymer layer has a second sensitivity to the energy emitted from energy source, and the second sensitivity is greater than the first sensitivity.

Cables with polymeric jacket layers

A downhole cable that has a cable core with an inner jacket located about it. The inner jacket has a shell located thereabout, and a pair of strength member layers surrounds the inner shell. Interstitial spaces of the strength member layers are filled with bonding layers. One of the strength member layers is at a contra-helical lay angle to the other. An outer jacket is located about one of the strength member layers, and the outer jacket is bonded with the bonding layers.

Method of making a cable

A dual use cable includes at least one fiber optic cable encased in a metallic component that is encased in a layer of polymer material. The polymer material is surrounded by a tube or armor wire strength members embedded in one or two additional polymer material layers. A final assembly can include an outer metallic component or an outer layer of polymer material. The at least one fiber optic cable transmits data and the armor wire strength members and/or metallic components transmit at least one of electrical power and data.

Dual use cable with fiber optics for use in wellbore operations

A high power opto-electrical cable with multiple power and telemetry paths and a method for manufacturing the same includes at least one cable core element and at least one high-power conductor core element incased in a polymer material jacket layer. The cable core element has at least one longitudinally extending optical fiber surrounded by a pair of longitudinally extending arcuate metallic wall sections forming a tube and a polymer material jacket layer surrounding and incasing the wall sections, wherein the optical fiber transmits data and the wall sections transmit at least one of electrical power and data.
