A light mixer includes a light mixing plate, a plurality of light sources, a plurality of upper reflecting layers, a lower reflecting layer, and a semi-permeable layer. The light mixing plate has an upper surface, a lower surface, a peripheral surface, and a plurality of receiving holes. The light sources are respectively located in the receiving holes. The upper reflecting layers are respectively located right above the light sources. The lower reflecting layer is located on the lower surface of the light mixing plate. The semi-permeable layer wraps the peripheral surface of the light mixing plate. A diffuser is located above the light mixers.

An LED array includes a plurality of first and second light-emitting rows. Each of the first light-emitting rows is composed of a plurality of red and green LEDs arranged linearly alternately. Each of the second light-emitting rows is composed of a plurality of green and blue LEDs arranged linearly alternately. The first and second light-emitting rows are parallel to each other and arranged alternately. Thus, the LED array can generate preferably equable arrangement of colored light to output preferably equable light mixture. In any 2&#xd7;2 matrix, there are two green, one red, and one blue LEDs.

The present invention relates to a diffusion plate used in a direct-type backlight module and a method for making the same. At least one of the surfaces of the diffusion plate has a microstructure constituted by repeated undulation that can refract and diffuse the incident light beams that enter the diffusion plate. Therefore, the paths of the light beams after entering the diffusion plate are changed, which raises the luminance of the backlight module.

A straight down back light module including a diffuser plate, a lamp, a reflector plate (back plate) and a support. The reflector plate is located below the diffuser plate. The lamp is located between the diffuser plate and the reflector plate. The support is installed between the diffuser plate and the reflector plate. The support includes a lamp cover for supporting the lamp. The lamp is directly covered by the lamp cover for preventing the lamp from deformation that could occur because of temperature difference. When used in a large-sized liquid crystal display, at least one pin can be provided on the support in order to support the diffuser plate and the lamp so as to prevent them from deformation that could occur because of temperature difference.

Supporting structure of straight down back light module

A lens used for a light-emitting diode (LED) includes a body having an axis and a retaining part, wherein the body of the lens is symmetrical about the axis. The lens is mounted onto an LED and further includes a first lens part and a second lens part. When entering into the first lens part, light rays will be totally reflected through the first lens part and the light rays emitted from the first lens part will approximately parallel to the axis. When the light rays emitted from the first lens part enter into the second lens part, they will be totally reflected, and the light rays emitted from the second lens part will be approximately perpendicular to the axis. Thus, the lens has a structure that may control the emitting direction of light emitted from an LED.
