Systems and methods of electrical stimulation for intra and extra vascular treatment of a subject are provided. The device includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a controller. The controller is configured to apply an electrical current between the first and second electrodes. The electrical current follows a path between the first and second electrodes and through a portion of the subject that includes a blockage.

A package in which a medical device is stored, the package comprising an outer shell providing a vapor barrier between an interior space inside the outer shell and an exterior environment, a medical device positioned in the interior space inside the outer shell, the medical device including a liquid-containing element that is subject to drying out as liquid from the liquid-containing element vaporizes and travels from the interior space to the external environment, a condition sensor comprising two metallic elements, each of the two metallic elements being composed of different metals, with each of the different metals selected so that the two metallic elements form an anode and a cathode of an electrochemical cell, each of the two metallic elements being in electrical contact with a conductive water-containing element, so that the water-containing element forms the electrolyte of the electrochemical cell, and an electrically conductive path extending from each of the metallic elements to a location wherein the electrochemical potential formed between the metallic elements can be measured to provide an indication of the degree to which the conductive water-containing element has dried out.

A package in which a medical device is stored, the package comprising an outer shell providing a vapor barrier, a medical device positioned in the interior space inside the outer shell, the medical device including a liquid-containing element that is subject to drying out, a condition sensor comprising two metallic elements and a conductive water-containing element, each of the two metallic elements being composed of different metals, with each of the different metals selected so that the two metallic elements form an anode and a cathode of an electrochemical cell, so that the water-containing element forms the electrolyte of the electrochemical cell, and the voltage of the cell provides an indication the conductive water-containing element of the medical device has dried out.

Systems and methods of enhancing cardiopulmonary circulation in a subject during resuscitation are provided. A signal is received responsive to an induced heart compression that is applied to the subject, for example during ventricular fibrillation, an asystolic condition, or cardiac arrest. Responsive to receipt of the signal, a muscle distal subject's heart is electrically stimulated to contract and expel blood into the venous blood flow toward a heart of the subject.

Systems and methods for enhanced venous return flow during cardiac event

A method of operating an automated external defibrillator, the method being implemented by circuitry and one or more processors of the defibrillator, comprising monitoring a pulse signal from the patient; monitoring an ECG signal from the patient; determining whether it is appropriate to deliver a defibrillation shock to the patient, the determination being based at least in part on the content of the ECG signal and on the content of the pulse signal.

Pulse sensors

A medical electrode for conducting an electrical current to or from the skin of a patient. The electrode comprises a thin, flexible metallic conductor, a layer of electrolyte in electrical contact with the conductor and positioned to be in electrical contact with the skin when the electrode is applied to a patient, and an insulating layer overlying the conductor, wherein a peripheral edge of the metallic conductor is sealed with an insulating material so that the peripheral edge of the conductor is substantially out of electrical contact with the electrolyte. This tends to increase the shelf life of the electrode because the more highly worked (e.g., from being die cut during manufacture), and thus higher energy state, peripheral edge is electrically isolated.

A medical electrode assembly comprising a first electrically conductive element configured to be in electrical contact with the patient and to deliver a therapy pulse, a second electrically conductive element configured to be in electrical contact with the patient and to deliver a depolarizing current, and an electrically conductive material providing an electrical connection between the first and second electrically conductive elements and the patient, wherein the first and second electrically conductive elements are configured so that polarization that occurs on the first element as the result of delivery of the therapy pulse may be reduced by subsequent delivery of the depolarizing current, which flows in a circuit that includes the patient and both the first and second conductive elements.

ECG/pacing electrodes

Medical electrodes are provided for use in applications that require long shelf life and/or shelf life at high temperatures. Some electrodes include high temperature adhesives and/or foams and an encapsulated electrolyte.

Medical electrodes with long storage life

Electrodes are provided, for example including: (a) a first electrode component including a conductive skin-contacting element, and (b) a second electrode component including a thin electrical conductor. The first and second electrode components may be positioned during storage of the electrode so that the conductive skin-contacting element is not in contact with the thin electrical conductor, and configured so that they can be brought into contact prior to use of the electrode with a surface of the conductive skin-contacting element in contact with a surface of the thin electrical conductor.

Skin-applied electrode pads

A medical electrode assembly includes a conductive electrode, an electrically insulative backing layer on one side of the electrode, an electrically conductive coupling agent in contact with another side of the electrode, an attachment mechanism rigidly connected to a center portion of the electrode, and an electrical conductor connected to the attachment mechanism. The combination of the electrode with the attachment mechanism is constructed with substantial circumferential uniformity such that electrical current provided to the center portion of the electrode through the low-profile attachment mechanism is distributed radially through the electrode in a substantially circumferentially uniform distribution. The electrode is constructed to perform defibrillation or cardioversion. The attachment mechanism is substantially flat and has a low profile. The electrical conductor has a substantially flat, strap-like configuration. A layer of material, which is co-extensive with substantially the entire area of the conductive electrode, causes the insulative backing layer to form a dome while the electrode assembly adheres to a patient's body. In certain embodiments a container surrounds the electrode and the electrically conductive coupling agent. A peel-off layer sealably engages the container through a sealing mechanism. In certain embodiments an electrically conductive sacrificial element is electrically connected with the electrode. The electrically conductive coupling agent contacts the electrode and the sacrificial element, so as to form an anode-cathode cell in which the sacrificial element corrodes and the electrode is protected from corrosion.

Reducing skin damage in use of medical electrodes

A method of increasing the cycle life of a thermostatic disc element for use in a disc assembly used in thermostatic switches in which a weld slug is used to weld the disc element to the disc assembly thereby causing a heat affected zone of the disc element comprising the step of engaging the surface of the disc element opposite the surface adjacent the weld slug with a fulcrum member at a location spaced from the heat affected zone so that upon reversal of the curvature of the disc element, the disc element will bend about the fulcrum member at a location removed from the heat affected zone.

Temperature responsive snap acting control assembly, device using such assembly and method for making

A medical electrode assembly includes an electrically conductive electrode, an electrically conductive sacrificial element, and a layer of electrically conductive gel. The electrode has an electrical terminal to connect with external electrical circuitry. The sacrificial element is electrically connected with the electrode through an impedance element or a power supply. The layer of electrically conductive gel contacts both the electrode and the sacrificial element so as to form an anode-cathode cell in which the sacrificial element functions as a sacrificial anode that corrodes and the electrode functions as a cathode that is protected from corrosion.

Protecting medical electrodes from corrosion

A snap acting thermostatic disc assembly having a thermostatic disc element (20) responsive both to current and to ambient temperature is provided with an electrical contact (22) on a face surface on the disc element at one end thereof and a weld slug (24) at an opposite end of the disc element and has a fulcrum member (28, 28', 28') on the opposite face surface of the disc element in alignment with the weld slug. The fulcrum member is arranged to move the bending location of the disc element member away from the heat affected zone of the thermostatic metal caused by welding. In a second embodiment the snap acting disc element is used as an ambient temperature responsive control member.
