A flexible non-PVC, non-DEHP container or bag for medical fluids has a container body formed of a multiple layer polyolefin film. The container has one or more ports equipped with a polyolefin fill tube and port closure assembly. The container has a low moisture vapor transmission rate.

A port closure system for use with a fluid container having fluid ports includes administrative and additive port closure assemblies. The administrative assembly receives a piercing pin and includes an administrative housing which seals closed one fluid port. A sleeve extends from an interior surface past a base surface in the administrative housing. The sleeve has an upper portion and a lower portion, of differing diameters. A cap assembly mates with the administrative housing, sealing the interior surface of the administrative housing. A removable cap provides access to the interior surface. The additive assembly receives a needle and includes a reseal housing which seals closed another fluid port. Another cap assembly mates with the reseal housing, sealing an interior face of the reseal housing. Another removable cap provides access to the interior face. A reseal element is mechanically retained between the reseal housing and cap assembly.

Port closure system for intravenous fluid container

A reusable connector is provided for mounting on an anesthetic vaporizer to connect the vaporizer with an anaesthetic container and hold the container in an inverted orientation. Cooperating engaging structures are employed to pull the container and connector together. In a preferred form, the container has a closure defining at least one port occluded by a recessed, pierceable membrane. A screw thread is provided on the container. The connector has a base provided with a first coupling for connecting the base to the vaporizer. The base has a second coupling that includes plug adapted to be connected to the container closure, The base also defines a passage extending from the plug through the first coupling for communicating with the vaporizer, The plug includes at least one projecting conduit that communicates with the passage and that defines a piercing tip for entering into the port to pierce the membrane, A collar is mounted for rotation on the base, The collar engages the base and defines a screw thread for engaging the thread on the container to pull the container onto the plug as the membrane is pierced.

System for connecting an inhalation agent container to a vaporizer

A drug reconstitution and administration system includes a container for a concentrated drug or other medicament, a syringe assembly which can be pre-filled with a liquid diluent, and a mixing adapter assembly which facilitates mixing of the medicament with the liquid diluent. The adapter assembly includes inner and outer concentrically arranged, relatively movable sleeves, which together define an expandable mixing chamber within the adapter assembly. The container and pre-filled syringe are respectively fitted to the adapter assembly, with the contents of the container and the contents of the syringe transferred into the internal mixing chamber. A diluted drug mixture is formed in the mixing chamber, and the mixture is transferred into the syringe assembly for subsequent patient administration.

An intravenous container has a siphoning port which permits use with differently sized piercing pins. The container has an access port through which the piercing pin is inserted into the container. A siphon area is provided which is in operative relationship with the access port, is dimensioned to accommodate the piercing pin, and which is in fluid communication with the solution in the container. The piercing pin is inserted into the container through the access port and positioned within the siphon area to create a siphoning effect for maximizing the use of the solution in the container.

An irrigation solution re-circulating system comprises a reservoir of irrigation solution, a solution supply line for joining the reservoir in fluid communication with a surgery site for delivering a controlled volume, pressure, and temperature of the irrigation solution to the surgery site, and a return line for further joining the surgery site in fluid communication with the reservoir. A pump, which is preferably non-hemolyzing, is connected to the return line for returning a controlled volume of the irrigation solution from the surgery site to the reservoir. The system further comprises at least one filter connected to the return line for removing contaminants from the irrigation solution prior to return to the reservoir to permit re-circulation of the solution without impairing endoscopic visualization of the surgery site, while providing solution for expanding the surgery site to permit performance of the attendant surgical procedure.

A reverse osmosis device for purifying water from a source comprising a housing having an inlet for passage of water from the source, a first outlet for passage of purified water from the housing and a second outlet for passage of waste water remaining after purification. A first reverse osmosis multilayer assembly is disposed within the housing in fluid communication with the inlet for purification of at least a first portion of the water from the source. Water treatment chemicals can be positioned in a core about which the first reserve osmosis multilayer assembly is wound. The treatment chemicals are in fluid communication with the first reverse osmosis multilayer assembly to receive the first purified portion of water and for removal of at least chemical contaminants therefrom. A second reverse osmosis multilayer assembly is also wound on the core and is in fluid communication with the water treatment chemicals to receive the chemically purified water for purification of at least a second portion thereof. The second reserve osmosis multilayer assembly is in fluid communication with the first outlet so as to permit passage of the second portion of purified water therethrough.

Medical drug formulation and delivery system includes a reverse osmosis device for purifying water from a source comprising a housing having an inlet for passage of water from the source, a first outlet for passage of purified water from the housing and a second outlet for passage of waste water remaining after purification. A first reverse osmosis multilayer assembly is disposed within the housing in fluid communication with the inlet for purification of at least a first portion of the water from the source. Water treatment chemicals can be positioned in a core about which the first reserve osmosis multilayer assembly is wound. The treatment chemicals are in fluid communication with the first reverse osmosis multilayer assembly to receive the first purified portion of water and for removal of at least chemical contaminants therefrom. A second reverse osmosis multilayer assembly is also wound on the core and is in fluid communication with the water treatment chemicals to receive the chemically purified water for purification of at least a second portion thereof. The second reserve osmosis multilayer assembly is in fluid communication with the first outlet so as to permit passage of the second portion of purified water therethrough. In one preferred embodiment, the first and second reverse osmosis assemblies are formed integrally in a side by side configuration. In an alternative embodiment, they are rolled about the core in an interleaf configuration.

A method of detecting occlusions in a solution pumping system includes monitoring and analyzing pressures within the system during selected portions of a pumping cycle. The pumping system of the illustrated embodiment includes a positive displacement pump operated by a reciprocable pump piston, with analysis of pressures within the system identifying those conditions which reflect the presence of an occlusion either upstream or downstream of the positive displacement pump. A suitable signal or alarm can then be activated to alert operating personnel.

A terminal reservoir capping device according to the present invention includes a hollow member having first and second open ends. A first plug seals the first open end such that the plug is inwardly displaceable into the hollow member. A second plug seals the second open end. A chamber is defined by the hollow member and the first and second plugs. A reservoir of disinfecting fluid or therapeutic drug is provided in the chamber. Axially extending from the first end of the hollow member is a mechanism for engaging and advancing the tube connector into the chamber so as to inwardly displace the first plug into the chamber. The plug self-releases and allows dispersal of the reservoir fluid into the tube connector.

A catheter assembly for intravenous therapy includes a protective shield to protect health care personnel from inadvertent injury. The protective shield can be selectively positioned on the assembly to permit manipulation of a needle member of the assembly so that the needle member can be withdrawn from an associated tubular catheter member. After the needle member is withdrawn, it is received within the shield member, and is substantially enclosed therein so that the needle member can disposed of without injury to personnel.

A solution pumping system includes a compressible pump cassette having front and rear body members, and an elastomeric diaphragm positioned therebetween. The front and rear body members are joined to each other for limited, relative movement, which movement effects compression of the diaphragm. The pump cassette is removably positionable in a pump driver of the system, which can be configured to effect compression of the cassette for use. In this way, the desired compression of the diaphragm during use can be achieved, while avoiding problems associated with compression set or load decay during storage of the cassette prior to use.

The present invention provides a package for and method of packaging a sterilizable calibratable medical device including a hydratable sensor component. The device is maintained in a sterile environment during storage and in a clean environment during the calibration procedure. The package includes a manifold connected to the sensor component by plumbing. The plumbing establishes fluid communication between the manifold and the sensor component and/or between the sensor component and the ambient environment of the plumbing. The manifold, plumbing and medical device are sealed in a wrap including a gas-permeable surface. The wrap and its contents, including the interior surfaces of the components, are sterilizable by exposing the wrap to a gaseous sterilization solution and appropriately adjusting the plumbing. The medical device is hydratable by directing the hydration solution to the sensor component by means of the plumbing. In order to store the package over an extended period of time, a gas-impermeable chamber is defined which includes the ambient environment of the plumbing. The gaseous environment of the medical device is thereby controllable. In this manner, the device is prepared for calibration and is storable in the sterile environment. By connecting a reservoir including calibration solution to the plumbing, the calibration solution is directed to the sensor component without removing the medical device from its clean environment. The temperature of the sensor component and the solution are controlled throughout the calibration process in order to ensure that the device is calibrated in accordance with its intended use. The present invention further discloses a solution for preparing the medical device for use. The solution is chemically compatible with the intended use of the device.
