A computer includes a processor and a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to predict damage to one or more components of a host vehicle and predict a hazard for a user of the host vehicle based on the predicted damage of at least one of the components disposed at the collision location. The computer predicts the damage based on an energy transfer between a target vehicle and the host vehicle. The energy transfer is based on a speed of a target vehicle, a mass of the target vehicle, a predicted contact area of a collision location of the host vehicle where the target vehicle is predicted to collide, and a deformation strength of material at the collision location.

Enhanced collision detection

A vehicle includes first and second electric machines driven by inverters and coupled to first and second sets of wheels. The vehicle includes switches configured to selectively connect each of the electric machines in one of a wye and a delta connection. The vehicle further includes a controller programmed to operate the switches to select a connection for the electric machines and operate the inverters to proportion a torque demand between the electric machines based on speed of the vehicle.

The electric machine has a lower torque producing limit with one of the windings than an other of the windings at a given speed. The vehicle includes a controller configured to select the other of the windings such that torque of the electric machine increases without increasing the given speed. The selection is responsive to operating with the one of the windings and a torque demand greater than the lower torque producing limit.
