Described herein are plugging materials with polysaccharides that can be used in wellbore operations. A plugging material can include hydraulic cement, amorphous silica, polysaccharides, a retarder, clay, and an aqueous base, where the material is injectable into a wellbore. The polysaccharides can be cross-linked with borate. The retarder can be at least one of an organo phosphoric acid, a modified sulfonated styrene-maleic anhydride polymer, lignosulfonate, or a polyacrylic acid.

A cement composition for use in a well that penetrates a subterranean formation comprising: hydrated lime; a silicate; and water, wherein the composition is substantially free of a hydraulic cement. A treatment fluid may comprise: a water having hardness at about 300 ppm or greater, a plurality of particulates, a swellable clay, a chelating agent at about 0.01% to about 5% by weight of the water (BWOW); and an alkali metal base at about 0.01% to about 5% BWOW, wherein the chelating agent and alkali metal base reduce the negative effect of the water on hydrating swellable clays.

A cement composition for use in a well that penetrates a subterranean formation comprises: a calcium aluminate cement or calcium magnesia cement; water; a fluid loss additive; and a suspending agent, wherein the suspending agent is a polymer and wherein the polymer: (A) is amphoteric; (B) has a molecular weight greater than 100,000; and (C) does not increase the fluid loss of the cement composition greater than 15% at a temperature of 145&#xb0; F. A method of cementing in a subterranean formation comprises: introducing the cement composition into the subterranean formation; and allowing the cement composition to set.

Amphoteric polymer suspending agent for use in calcium aluminate cement compositions

A cement composition comprises: cement; water; and an additive, wherein the additive is a pozzolan and a strength-retrogression inhibitor, and wherein a mixture consisting essentially of: the additive; water; and a source of calcium develops a compressive strength of at least 500 psi at a time of 24 hours, a temperature of 190&#xb0; F., and a pressure of 3,000 psi. A method of cementing in a subterranean formation comprises: introducing the cement composition into the subterranean formation and allowing the cement composition to set. The compressive strength of the test cement composition consisting essentially of: the cement; the water; and the additive at a final time of 72 hours has a percent change greater than &#x2212;5% from the compressive strength of the test cement composition at an initial time of 24 hours when tested at a temperature of 300&#xb0; F. and a pressure of 3,000 psi.
