Methods are described for treatment of aramid fibers to modify the surface of the fibers. The treated fibers have improved adhesion to elastomer materials as compared to untreated fibers. Modification methods include irradiating the fibers, compressing and straining the fibers under a constant pull force and immersing the fibers in a coupling agent fluid. The treated fibers can be used with elastomers and provide reinforcement elements in products such as tires.

Methods for modification of aramid fibers

The present invention is directed to an air spring sleeve comprising: an outer layer, at least one reinforcing layer, and an inner layer that form the sleeve; the outer layer and the inner layer are formed of an elastomeric composition, with the proviso that the elastomeric composition does not comprise epichlorohydrin; and the at least one reinforcing layer comprises a plurality of reinforcing elements disposed between a layer of the elastomeric composition, wherein the elastomeric composition of the at least one reinforcing layer is identical to the elastomeric composition of the outer layer and the inner layer.

Air spring sleeve

Tires having a magnetic tire sealing material containing magnetic particles are described for detecting the presence of one or more sealed punctures in the tire. The tires can have a sealed tire portion that is formed by the magnetic tire sealing material flowing into and filling a puncture in the tire. The sealed tire portion includes a portion having magnetic particles and the portion being at the outer surface of the tire such as in the tread area. The tire can be positioned within the detection zone of an apparatus capable of detecting magnetic particles to indicate whether the tire contains a sealed puncture filled with the magnetic tire sealing material.

Tires having an electrically conductive tire sealing material containing metallic electrically conductive particles are described for detecting the presence of one or more sealed puncture areas in the tire. The tires can have a sealed tire portion that is formed by the electrically conductive tire sealing material flowing into and filling a puncture in the tire. The sealed tire portion includes a portion having electrically conductive particles and the portion being at the outer surface of the tire such as in the tread area. The tire can be positioned to be in contact with a conductive section of an apparatus capable of measuring electrical conductivity.

An adhesive includes a polymeric latex, a penetrant selected from the group consisting of: terpenes, polylimonene, limonene, carvone, &#x3b1;-pinene, citral, dipentene, 1,8-cineole, eucalyptol, citronellol, geraniol, citronellene, terpinen-4-ol, borneol, camphor, guayule resin, and combinations thereof; and a reinforcing filler. The adhesive has a solids content of 35-65% and a pH of 9 to 12. Articles of manufacture, such as tires and air springs incorporate the adhesive to join rubber interfaces. A method of making the adhesive is also is provided.

Water-based adhesives

An assembly for attaching an electronics package to a tire includes a carriage for receiving an electronics package. The assembly also includes a locking clip connected to the carriage and a locking ring having a first side permanently affixed to an interior of the tire. The locking ring is configured to engage the locking clip.

Provided herein are cured rubber compositions containing guayule natural rubber with 2.5-4 weight % resin and fillers. By the use of a specified cure package that contains increased amounts of sulfur and accelerator, the cured rubber compositions are found to exhibit strain induced crystallization (as can be observed by X-ray diffraction). Also provided are related methods for preparing the rubber compositions.

An assembly for mounting an electronics package to an interior of a tire includes a carriage configured to receive an electronics package. The assembly also includes an attaching device having a first side and a second side. The first side of the attaching device is permanently affixed to the interior of the tire. The second side of the attaching device has an attaching structure. The attaching structure is configured to receive the carriage to form a secure and locked connection.

Antioxidant precursors for elastomeric compositions

The present disclosure is directed to rubber compositions containing a chemical additive capable of generating or enhancing strain-induced crystallization into the compositions, and tires containing the rubber compositions in one or more components such as sidewalls or treads. The chemical additive is at least one nucleating agent of formula (I) or formula (II). As well, certain embodiments relate to methods for achieving reduced wear or improved durability in a tire tread or tire sidewall by using the chemical additives.

Rubber compositions and uses thereof

A process for preparing a blend of trans-1,4-polybutadiene and syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene, the process comprising the steps of (i) polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a lanthanide-based catalyst to form a polymerization mixture including trans-1,4-polybutadiene, where the lanthanide-based catalyst includes (a) a lanthanide-containing compound, and (b) an organomagnesium compound; and (ii) polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in the presence of an iron-based catalyst within the polymerization mixture including trans-1,4-polybutadiene to form syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene within the polymerization mixture including trans-1,4-polybutadiene and thereby produce a blend of trans-1,4-polybutadiene and syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene; where the iron-based catalyst includes (a) an iron-containing compound, (b) an organomagnesium compound, and (c) a silyl phosphonate.
