A compressor includes a shell, a first scroll member, a second scroll member and a sealing assembly. The shell defines a first pressure region and a second pressure region. The first scroll member is disposed within the shell and includes a first end plate and a first scroll wrap. The second scroll member includes a second end plate and a second scroll wrap. The second scroll wrap meshingly engages the first scroll wrap to define a compression chamber therebetween. The seal assembly fluidly separates the first and second pressure regions from each other. The seal assembly includes a first plate, a second plate, a first sealing member and a second sealing member. The first sealing member is sealingly engaged with the first plate and the second plate. The second sealing member is sealingly engaged with the first sealing member and the first plate.

A control module for a refrigeration system includes a startup mode control module that receives an off time of a compressor and an ambient temperature, determines whether the off time and the ambient temperature indicate that the compressor is in a flooded condition, and selects, based on the determination, between a normal startup mode and a flooded startup mode. A compressor control module transitions from the flooded startup mode to the normal startup mode after a predetermined period associated with operating in the flooded startup mode and operates the compressor at a first speed in the normal startup mode and operates the compressor at a second speed less than the first speed in the flooded startup mode.

A battery is charged based on utility power while in the shore power mode. The engine module, while in the engine mode, limits the compressor speed to a second speed. The battery, while in the engine mode, is charged based on power received from an alternator/generator. The battery module, while in the battery mode, limits the compressor speed to a third speed. While in the battery mode, the battery is not being charged based on power from a shore power source and the alternator/generator.

The engine module, while operating in the engine mode, runs a compressor at a first speed based on a temperature within a temperature controlled container of a vehicle and permits passage of refrigerant through eutectic plates independent of the temperature. A battery, while in the engine mode, is charged based on power received from an electrical source. The battery module, while operating in the battery mode and based on the temperature, runs the compressor at a second speed and prevents passage of the refrigerant through the eutectic plates. While in the battery mode, the battery is not being charged based on power from a shore power source and the electrical source from which power is received during the engine mode.

The refrigeration system includes a control module configured to monitor one or more characteristics of the battery and to control one or more operating parameters of one or more of the compressor, the condenser, and the evaporator based on the one or more characteristics of the battery.
