In one aspect, an apparatus for obtaining a fluid from a formation is disclosed that in one embodiment may include a fluid extraction device having a first probe and a second probe independently extendable form a tool body, a first fluid line and an associated first filter in fluid communication with the first probe for receiving the fluid from the formation and a second fluid line and an associated second filter in fluid communication with the second probe for receiving the fluid from the formation, and a first fixed scraper that cleans the first filter when the first probe is retracted from an extended position and a second fixed scraper that cleans the second filter when the second probe is retracted from an extended position.

Apparatus and method for obtaining formation fluid samples

An apparatus for controlling fluid flow from a first location to a second location includes a body, a valve, a shear seal, and a biasing member. The body has a fluid conduit and a chamber. The conduit has an inlet that communicates with the first location and an outlet that communicates with the second location. The valve is disposed in the chamber and has a seal separating the chamber into a pressure section and a flow section. The pressure section communicates with the outlet via an outlet fluid branch. The shear seal has a movable sealing element disposed on the valve and a stationary sealing element disposed in the body. The biasing member urges the valve to a closed position wherein the stationary sealing element sealingly engages the movable sealing element. Pressure communicated by the outlet fluid branch also urges the valve to the closed position.

Shear seal check valve for use in wellbore fluid

A stop collar assembly used for axially securing and/or to resist axial sliding of a downhole tool device. The assembly provided on a housing of the downhole tool and includes a generally annular ring having an inner circumference beveled outward proximate to the ring edge. A clamp ring having a raised portion on its outer surface is disposed adjacent and substantially coaxial with the annular ring. Pushing the annular ring against the clamp ring compresses the clamp ring onto the housing to resist axial sliding of the annular ring.

Stop collar friction clamping device

The downhole tool disclosed herein comprises a body, a flexible member attached to the body, and a transducer housed in the body. The flexible member compresses against one side of the wellbore and urges the body against the other side. The transducer emits a signal to the flexible member reflectable from the flexible member back to the transducer. The signal travel time from the transducer to the flexible member and back is analyzed for estimating the distance between the body and the flexible member. The standoff distance can be estimated from the distance between the body and the flexible member. From the standoff distance, the wellbore diameter is estimated. The tool may also obtain wellbore dimensions by obtaining near side wellbore standoff and using a magnetic ruler to determine bowspring flexing. The magnetic ruler results may be used in conjunction with or without the far side standoff data.
