A selective optical shutter can include a first window, a second window, and a cavity disposed between the first window and the second window. A filter can be disposed in an optical path of the optical shutter, whereby the filter blocks of one of ultraviolet (UV) light or infrared (IR) light and passes each of visible light and the other of UV light or IR light. A first liquid and a second liquid can be disposed within the cavity. The first liquid and the second liquid can be substantially immiscible with each other, whereby a liquid interface is formed between the first liquid and the second liquid. The liquid interface can be adjustable by electrowetting to selectively pass visible light or the other of UV light or IR light.

The present disclosure relates to a method of making a lensed connector in which a glass ferrule has holes within the body of the glass ferrule, and the glass ferrule is subsequently processed to form lens structures along the ferrule.

A perfusion bioreactor and a method for using the perfusion bioreactor for performing a continuous cell culture are disclosed. The perfusion bioreactor includes an outer vessel having a housing with a gas permeable membrane, an opening and a cavity; an inner vessel within the cavity; and a lid to cover the opening. A porous membrane within the cavity divides the cavity into inner and outer compartments. A fresh media port extends through the outer vessel or the at least one lid to receive a fresh media tube that has an end located in the inner compartment. A spent media port extends through the outer vessel or the at least one lid to receive a spent media tube that has an end located in the outer compartment. A mixer is within the inner compartment, and the porous membrane is attached to an opening within the inner vessel.

Porous silicon compositions and devices and methods thereof

Embodiments of an optical adhesive are provided. The optical adhesive includes about 20% to about 60% by volume of first monomers. The first monomers have at least two acrylate or methacrylate groups. The optical adhesive also includes about 40% to about 80% by volume of second monomers. The second monomers have at least one fluorine atom and at least one acrylate or methacrylate group. The optical adhesive has a refractive index of from about 1.40 to about 1.55, and in the temperature range of about 10&#xb0; C. to about 85&#xb0; C., the refractive index of the optical adhesive has a thermal drift dn/dT of less than about &#x2212;4&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. Embodiments of a mechanical joint between two optical fiber segments using the optical adhesive and embodiments of a method for joining two optical fiber segments are also provided.

Low dn/dT optical adhesives

Silicon-silica hybrid materials made by metallothermal reduction from silica and methods of producing such compositions are provided. The compositions have novel properties and provide significant improvements in Coulombic efficiency, dilithiation capacity, and cycle life when used as anode materials in lithium battery cells.

Method and material for lithium ion battery anodes

A sol-gel method for forming durable, scratch-resistant coatings on glass substrates. Zirconia coatings, for example, are formed from a solution of zirconium oxychloride octahydrate in an organic, polar, aprotic solvent such as dimethylformamide. Annealed coatings, which optionally include an additive such as graphene, have a low coefficient of friction and can exhibit high hardness and hydrophobicity.

The optical assembly includes a first waveguide, a second waveguide, and an optical adhesive for transmitting optical signals between the first waveguide and the second waveguide. Optical assembly using low DN/DT optical adhesive

One embodiment of the disclosure relates to an optical connector. The optical connector may include a ferrule, a waveguide, and an inorganic adhesive composition. The ferrule may include a fiber-receiving passage defining an inner surface. The inorganic adhesive composition may be disposed within the ferrule and in contact with the inner surface of the ferrule and the waveguide. The inorganic adhesive composition may include at least about 50% by weight of metal oxide.

Optical connectors with inorganic adhesives and methods for making the same

An electrode coating composition that includes at least one crosslinkable monomer; at least one hydrophobic monomer; and at least one dielectric constant enhancing agent selected from dielectric enhancing monomers, ferroelectric particulates, and electroactive polymers. Coatings including the polymer of compositions, and articles including electrically isolating layers are also disclosed.
