A trial device and a method for using the device in surgery are disclosed. The device includes a body including a proximal portion and a distal portion. The proximal portion has a post or trunion projecting therefrom. The distal portion extends from the proximal portion and includes a first arm and a second arm, the first and second arms being movable with respect to one another. The body further includes a cavity formed therein so as to extend through the proximal portion and into the distal portion. The device further includes a driver adapted for sliding engagement within the internal cavity of the body such that movement of the driver, preferably in a distal direction, causes movement of a portion of the first arm away from a portion of the second arm.

Expanding trial stem for orthopaedic surgery

Trials for a reverse shoulder system are described. The trials generally include an insert housed within a humeral cup. The insert has a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end having a concave recess therein adapted to receive a glenosphere prosthesis. The distal end of the insert includes a shaft, the shaft is substantially housed within the confines of the humeral cup. A distal end of the humeral cup is inserted in a humeral stem.

A prosthetic glenoid component has a body having a concave bearing surface and a convex glenoid contacting surface. First and second pegs extend outwardly from adjacent respective first and second ends of the bone contacting surface of the body, the first and second pegs have portions with a first diameter at the bone contacting surface extending for a first length and a second diameter extending from the first diameter for a second length, the first diameter larger than the second diameter. A third peg extends outwardly from the bone contacting surface intermediate the first and second pegs. The third peg has a third diameter greater than the second diameter portion of the first and second pegs and a third length greater than the first length of the first diameter portion of the first and second pegs. The third length is less than the sum of the first and second lengths.

Described herein is an expandable shoulder trial for a reverse shoulder system including a rotatably adjustable insert housed within a humeral cup. The insert has proximal and distal ends, the proximal end having a concave recess therein adapted to receive a glenosphere prosthesis. The distal end of the insert includes a shaft, the shaft having a helical groove disposed on at least a portion thereof. A distal end of the humeral cup is inserted in a humeral stem. The humeral cup has a proximal end including a recess therein, the recess defined by a circular wall. A guide pin protrudes from the circular wall and is adapted to engage the helical groove of the insert shaft. The proximal end of the insert may rotate along an axis toward the proximal end of the humeral cup and along the same axis away from the proximal end of the humeral cup.

Expandable reverse shoulder trial

An expandable shoulder trial for a reverse shoulder system is described. The trial includes a rotatably adjustable insert housed within a humeral cup. The insert has a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end having a concave recess therein adapted to receive a glenosphere prosthesis. The distal end of the insert includes a shaft, the shaft having a helical groove disposed on at least a portion thereof. A distal end of the humeral cup is inserted in a humeral stem. The humeral cup has a proximal end including a recess therein, the recess defined by a circular wall. A guide pin protrudes from the circular wall and is adapted to engage the helical groove of the shaft of the insert. The proximal end of the insert may rotate along an axis toward the proximal end of the humeral cup and along the same axis away from the proximal end of the humeral cup.
