A wearable device includes a ring-shaped housing having a central opening and defining an annular interior volume. The housing is configured to be worn within an ear of a subject such that the subject's ear canal is exposed by the central opening. At least one optical emitter and at least one optical detector are supported within the housing. The housing includes at least one window through which light can be delivered from the at least one optical emitter to the ear, and through which light from the ear can be delivered to the at least one optical detector.

An ear gel module for an earpiece includes an ear gel having opposite inner and outer surfaces and first and second light guides each having respective opposite first and second ends. The first end of the first light guide is secured to the inner surface of the ear gel, and the first end of the second light guide is secured to the inner surface of the ear gel in adjacent spaced-apart relationship with the third light guide first end. The second ends of the first and second light guides are configured to be attached to and in optical communication with respective light guides extending from a sensor module within the earpiece when the ear gel module is attached to the earpiece.

A hearing aid module includes an elongated housing, an optical sensor module within the housing, an audio driver positioned within the housing adjacent the optical sensor module, and first and second light guides positioned near the audio driver. The module has a rectangular configuration with opposite first and second sides, opposite third and fourth sides, and opposite first and second ends. The first and second sides each include an opening. An ear tip is coupled to the housing first end and is configured to retain the module within the auditory canal. The first light guide guides light from an optical emitter through the opening in the housing first side and into skin of the auditory canal in a non-line of sight manner. The second light guide collects light from the skin of the auditory canal and directs the collected light to an optical detector in a non-line of sight manner.

A wearable device includes a ring-shaped housing having a central opening and defining an annular interior volume. The cellular telephone of the present invention includes a generally sealed, moisture resistant electrical external connector that resides in the wall of the phone housing and provides a series of electrically conductive pathways which lead from the external surface of the housing, through the housing wall, to designated areas on an internally located printed circuit board. More particularly, these electrically conductive pathways or contacts, that essentially penetrate the cellular telephone housing, are incorporated within the housing wall via an insert molding, press fitting, or similar process such that a generally sealed, moisture resistant barrier is formed between the individual contacts which comprise the connector and the surrounding housing.

A mounting assembly is used to mount a liquid crystal display (LCD) to a printed circuit board. The mounting assembly includes a display support which is mounted to the printed circuit board and supports the display in spaced relationship to the printed circuit board. A connector with integral spring contacts snaps into an opening into the display support to electrically connect the contacts on the LCD to the contacts on the printed circuit board. The connector extends over a top surface of the LCD display and functions as a mechanical retention element.

Display assembly

A lightguide is provided for illuminating a keypad of a radiotelephone, or other electronic device, via at least one light source located within the electronic device. Conductive pads and conductive traces are provided on a face of the lightguide. Each conductive pad is operably engageable via a respective key of a keypad. The conductive pads and traces are electrically connected with a circuit board within the radiotelephone housing.

A lightguide for illuminating keypads within electronic devices, such as radiotelephones, supports additional components and is maintained in spaced apart relationship with a circuit board hosting electronic components. The number of separate components required within a radiotelephone is decreased and the amount of circuit board real estate available for electrical components is increased.
