A method and device for protecting and installing a fire protection sprinkler assembly having a thermally responsive trigger. The method includes shielding and torqueing a fire protection sprinkler with a protective device having a torque assist portion. The protective device includes a first and second member strapped about the sprinkler assembly. Each of the members of the protective device has a first lateral end and a second lateral end disposed about the thermally responsive trigger. At least one of members has a concave segment and a convex segment formed between the first lateral end and the second lateral end. The convex and concave segments define therebetween an external torque assist surface of the protective device that can be used to manually torque and install the sprinkler assembly.

Protection and installation device for fire protection sprinklers

A method and device for protecting and installing a fire protection sprinkler assembly having a thermally responsive trigger. The method includes shielding and torquing a fire protection sprinkler with a protective device having a torque assist feature. The protective device includes a first member and a second member opposed and spaced about a plane to define an internal void and a lateral slot for strapping about the sprinkler. The torque assist feature includes a first confronting segment of the first member and a second confronting segment of the second member. The first and second confronting segments are disposed on opposite sides of the plane and spaced apart laterally about the device axis. Each of the first and second confronting segments define an internal surface of the device that form a contact surface engagement with one arm in the pair of frame arms to transfer a torque or rotational force to the sprinkler.

Fire protection systems and methods having piping interconnections for connecting a fire protection device to a fluid source. The piping interconnections include a branch connector connected to a pipe header. The branch connector includes a tubular member and an internal annular seal member housed in an internal gasket chamber of the tubular member. The tubular member includes an internal stepless surface between a terminal end of the tubular member and the internal gasket chamber.

Fire protection systems and methods using fire protection devices installed in pipe fittings with an internally housed seal member

A helipad fire suppression system includes a helipad having an outer boundary that defines an impervious deck area for at least one of landing or storing one or more helicopters, with at least a portion of the impervious deck area being designated a fire suppression target area. The system includes a nozzle assembly having a spray-type nozzle for spraying a fire suppression fluid in a radial pattern. The nozzle assembly can include a nozzle enclosure for enclosing the spray-type nozzle and can be configured for installation in a surface made of an impervious material. The nozzle assembly is disposed in an interior portion of the impervious deck area so as to provide the fire suppression fluid to the fire suppression target area.

Fire suppression system and method for a helicopter landing pad

Differential-type dry pipe valves for fire protection systems are provided. The valve includes a body with a clapper assembly disposed in an internal passage of the valve body between an inlet and an outlet. The clapper assembly is movable between a closed position and an open position to respectively prevent and permit fluid flow through the passage from the inlet to the outlet. With the clapper assembly in the open position, an internal mechanism is positioned to stop the clapper moving to the closed position. The valve includes a resetting assembly having a knob exterior to the body. Translation of the knob toward the outlet moves the internal mechanism which permits the clapper assembly to move to the closed position.

Dry pipe valve

A proportioner having a body portion that defines a foam passage and a fluid passage. The proportioner also includes a restrictor assembly having a restrictor disk and an orifice plate having an opening for receiving the restrictor disk. The proportioner can further include a rod member connected to the restrictor disk and a clapper assembly connected to the rod member via a sliding interface. The clapper assembly can be configured to control a flow of the foam concentrate through the foam passage in proportion to a flow of the fire protection fluid through the fluid passage by moving the rod member to vary the distance between the restrictor disk and the orifice plate. The sliding interface can be disposed between a first guide and a second guide, and at least a portion of the restrictor disk is disposed in the opening.

Proportioner for a fire protection system

Fire protection systems and methods having piping interconnections for connecting afire protection device to a fluid source. The piping interconnections include a branch connector connected to a pipe header. The branch connector includes a tubular member and an internal annular seal member housed in an internal gasket chamber of the tubular member. The tubular member includes an internal stepless surface between a terminal end of the tubular member and the internal gasket chamber.

A floor nozzle assembly and systems and methods thereof for delivering a fire suppressant foam to a protected area. The nozzle assembly has a body and deflector in contact with one another to form a plurality of passageways through which a fire suppressant flows. The deflector has a deflector flange and a plurality of projecting members in contact with the body to form the passageways. The nozzle assembly has one or more of the following: i) a radial outer portion at each projecting member having a plurality of curved edges with at least two different curvatures; ii) each passageway is formed by parallel planar sidewalls; iii) the projecting members extend radially over a majority radial length of the deflector flange; and/or iv) the deflector flange has, with respect to a horizontal, a surface at an angle that is less than a support surface of the nozzle body.

Fire protection floor nozzle, systems, and methods for floor nozzle spray systems

Fluid control valve assemblies for use in fire protection sprinkler systems to control the flow of firefighting fluid to the system sprinklers. The assemblies include a pressure-operated fluid control valve having an internal fluid chamber in which fluid contained therein acts on an internal diaphragm to control the flow of fluid from an inlet to an outlet of the valve. An environment-responsive control device in fluid communication with the internal fluid chamber along a first fluid communication line controls the flow of fluid out of the fluid chamber to initiate actuation of the valve. A fluid-flow latch in fluid communication with the outlet of the valve along a second fluid communication line subsequently controls the simultaneous flow of fluid out of the fluid chamber and the actuation of the valve.

Fluid control valve assembly for fire protection systems

A proportioner having a body portion that defines a fluid passage for transporting a fire protection fluid and a foam passage for transporting a foam concentrate. The foam concentrate mixes with the fire protection fluid to form a fire protection solution. The proportioner also includes a restrictor assembly having a restrictor disk and an orifice plate. The orifice plate has an opening for receiving the restrictor disk. The restrictor disk and opening are configured to form an annulus between an outer surface of the restrictor disk and an inner surface of the opening when at least a portion of the restrictor disk is disposed within the opening and the restrictor disk is spaced from the orifice plate. The restrictor assembly is configured to maintain the annulus for a full travel range of the restrictor disk.

A fire protection containment unit for protection of an intermediate bulk container (IBC) having an internal flame and drain barrier disposed above a basin portion of the containment unit. The barrier includes pans having an impact surface that is angled to drain toward a central grid of the barrier to direct escaped liquid from the IBC into the basin portion of the containment unit. The basin portion includes a base surface on an incline to define a pooling region of the containment unit to collect escaped liquid from the IBC. The containment unit includes containment walls which define various configurations of the containment unit including an open configuration, partially open configuration, a completely contained configuration and a packaged configuration.

A fire suppression nozzle assembly includes a spray-type nozzle for spraying a fire suppression fluid. The spray-type nozzle includes a body portion defining a passage extending longitudinally through the body portion for conveying the fire suppression fluid. The spray-type nozzle also includes a deflector portion coupled to the body portion and configured to spray the fire suppression fluid onto a fire suppression target area using a radial spray pattern.

Fire suppression nozzle, nozzle assembly, and method for C6-based solution

A pilot actuator for controlling the operation of a control valve. The control valve can be part of a thy-type fire suppression sprinkler system in which the sprinkler piping network is filled with pressurized gas such as, for example, air, nitrogen, or another gas. The pilot actuator is a differential valve that actuates the control valve when the gas pressure in the sprinkler piping network is at or below a value for tripping or actuating the pilot valve to the open position. The actuator assembly defines a neutral chamber that is at an intermediate pressure in comparison to pressures at the inlet port and the measuring port when the pilot actuator is in a stand-by state.
