A supercapacitor module is provided. In some embodiments, the supercapacitor can include a first supercapacitor, a second supercapacitor, and an interconnect electrically connecting the first and second supercapacitors in series. A casing can encapsulate at least the first and second supercapacitors. The operating voltage of the supercapacitor module can be greater than 3.5 volts, and the equivalent series resistance of the supercapacitor module can be less than about 10 ohm.

An ultracapacitor that is capable of exhibiting good properties even after being subjected to high temperatures, such as experienced during solder reflow, is provided. The ultracapacitor contains a housing having sidewalls that extend in a direction generally perpendicular to a base. An interior cavity is defined between an inner surface of the base and the sidewalls within which an electrode assembly can be positioned. To attach the electrode assembly, first and second conductive members are disposed on the inner surface of the base. The electrode assembly likewise contains first and second leads that extend outwardly therefrom and are electrically connected to the first and second conductive members, respectively. The first and second conductive members are, in turn, electrically connected to first and second external terminations, respectively, which are provided on an outer surface of the base.

Ultracapacitor for use in a solder reflow process

An electrode assembly for an ultracapacitor is provided. The electrode assembly contains a first electrode comprising a first current collector electrically coupled to a first carbonaceous coating, a second electrode comprising a second current collector electrically coupled to a second carbonaceous coating, and a separator positioned between the first electrode and the second electrode. At least a portion of the first current collector projects beyond the first longitudinal edge to define a first projecting portion, wherein the offset ratio of the first projecting portion is from about 0.02 to about 0.3.

Electrode assembly for an ultracapacitor

An electrical circuit is provided including a substrate having a generally planar surface. A supercapacitor assembly includes a container having a length in a longitudinal direction. The supercapacitor assembly includes an electrode assembly enclosed within the container, and the electrode assembly may have a jelly-roll configuration. An angle ranging from about 0 to about 30 degrees is formed between the longitudinal direction of the container and the generally planar surface of the substrate.

Electrical circuit including a supercapacitor with reduced leakage

An ultracapacitor that contains at least one electrochemical cell is provided. The cell includes a first electrode that contains a first carbonaceous coating (e.g., activated carbon particles) electrically coupled to a first current collector, a second electrode that contains a second carbonaceous coating (e.g., activated carbon particles) electrically coupled to a second current collector, an aqueous electrolyte in ionic contact with the first electrode and the second electrode and that contains a polyprotic acid (e.g., sulfuric acid), and a separator that is positioned between the first and second electrodes. Through selective control over the particular nature of the materials used to form the ultracapacitor, as well as the manner in which they are formed, a variety of beneficial properties may be achieved.

Ultracapacitor with a low leakage current

A supercapacitor module is provided. In some implementations, the supercapacitor module may include a first supercapacitor having a first parameter value for a capacitor parameter in a first test condition. The supercapacitor module may include a second supercapacitor having a second parameter value for the capacitor parameter in about the first test condition. A ratio of the second parameter value to the first parameter value may be from about 0.8 to about 1.2. The supercapacitor module may prevent overvoltages across the first and second supercapacitors, such that the supercapacitor module may satisfactorily operate without a balancing circuit.

The meter includes a sensor configured to sense the flow of the product and a microcomputer communicatively coupled with the sensor and configured to measure the flow of the product based on signals received from the sensor. Systems and methods of charging and discharging an ultracapacitor are disclosed. In one embodiment, a circuit for charging a capacitor can include a power source configured to provide a source voltage. The circuit can further include an ultracapacitor, a temperature sensing device, a power converter, and one or more control devices configured to receive signals indicative of a temperature from the temperature sensing device, and to control operation of the power converter based at least in part on the one or more signals indicative of the temperature.

System and method for charging a capacitor

An ultracapacitor that comprises a first and second electrochemical cell that are connected in parallel is provided. The cells are define by a first electrode that contains a current collector having opposing sides coated with a carbonaceous material, a second electrode that contains a current collector having opposing sides coated with a carbonaceous material, and a separator positioned between the first electrode and the second electrode. The second cell is by the second electrode, a third electrode that contains a current collector having opposing sides coated with a carbonaceous material, and a separator positioned between the second electrode and the third electrode. The ultracapacitor also contains a nonaqueous electrolyte that is in ionic contact with the electrodes and contains a nonaqueous solvent and an ionic liquid. A package encloses the first cell, the second cell, and the nonaqueous electrolyte.
