Low-cure powder coating compositions are disclosed. The compositions comprise a polyepoxide and a material having the structure wherein Ris an organic radical having 6 to 25 carbon atoms; Ris an organic radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; Rand Rare independently alkyl or phenyl groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms; Z is oxygen or nitrogen, and when Z is oxygen Ris absent and when Z is nitrogen Ris hydrogen or is and n is 1 to 4. The material can optionally be reacted with an acidic hydrogen-containing compound. The compositions are curable without the use of crosslinking agents or accelerators. Methods for coating a substrate using these compositions, and substrates coated thereby, are also disclosed, as are additional catalysts useful for the same purpose.

Powder coating of polyepoxide and polyisocyanate-amine reaction product

Disclosed are methods for coating a substrate. These methods include: (a) vertically orienting the substrate between a vertically oriented backstop and a spray gun; (b) at least partially coating the vertically oriented substrate with a substantially 100% solids, radiation curable liquid coating composition by passing the composition through the spray gun wherein the composition is atomized; whereby a portion of the atomized coating composition deposits on the vertically oriented substrate and a portion of the atomized coating composition deposits on the vertically oriented backstop; (c) exposing the coated substrate to ionizing radiation and/or actinic radiation to cure the coating composition deposited thereon; and (d) removing and reusing at least a portion of the coating composition deposited on the vertically oriented backstop. Related coating systems are also disclosed.

Low-cure powder coating compositions are disclosed, comprising at least one epoxy-containing resin and/or at least one siloxane-containing resin, and at least one material having the structure wherein Ris an organic radical having 6 to 25 carbon atoms; each Ris independently a multivalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; Y is each Rand Rare independently alkyl or aryl groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms; each Z is independently oxygen or nitrogen; Ris absent when Z is oxygen and Ris hydrogen, an alkyl or aryl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, or (Y)&#x2014;R&#x2014; when Z is nitrogen; a and b are integers; a is at least 1; b is 1 to 3; and (b) at least one epoxy-containing resin and/or at least one siloxane-containing resin. The material can optionally be reacted with an acidic hydrogen-containing compound. Some compositions are curable without using crosslinking agents or accelerators. Methods for coating a substrate using these compositions, the coated substrates, and additional catalysts useful for the same purpose are also disclosed.
