An energy storage system can comprise a stack of multiple battery modules, a plurality of ultrasound emitter transducers, a plurality of ultrasound receiving transducers, one or more excitation modules, one or more capture modules, and an ultrasound battery management system. Each ultrasound emitter transducer and each ultrasound receiving transducer can be acoustically coupled to a surface of a respective one of the battery modules. The excitation module(s) can be electrically interfaced with the plurality of ultrasound emitter transducers, and the capture module(s) can be electrically interface with the plurality of ultrasound receiving transducers. The ultrasound battery management system controller can be configured to initiate battery module ultrasound interrogation sequences.

An energy storage device management system can include a management portion for charging/discharging an energy storage device and an ultrasound interrogation portion for passing ultrasound energy through the energy storage device during charge/discharge cycles. A memory stores a stream of capture data instances derived from ultrasound energy exiting the energy storage device and baseline ultrasound data instances corresponding with the energy storage device during normal charging/discharging thereof. A processor can compare each capture data instance with the baseline ultrasound data and detect abnormal operating states of the energy storage device. A warning system can issue a notification when abnormal operating states are detected.

Systems, methods, and devices for failure detection of one or more energy storage devices

Battery testing systems and methods are disclosed. One system includes one or more test platforms and a processing system. Each test platform performs ultrasonic scans of batteries. During the scans, each test platform can place pressure upon and measure temperature and open circuit voltages of each battery, transmit ultrasound signals into each battery and generate transmitted signal data in response, detect ultrasound signals reflected by or transmitted through each battery in response to the transmitted ultrasound signals and generate received signal data in response. The processing system can quantify aspects of the signal data and present the aspects to one or more battery models, which compute and assign a state of charge (SOC) and a state of health (SOH) to each battery in response. For example, the processing system can be in a service provider network that receives and analyzes signal data sent from test platforms at different customer facilities.

Battery testing systems and methods

A test barrier, a system incorporating the test barrier, and a method for using the same is disclosed herein. The test barrier is intended for use in testing that may be conducted on sections of an air distribution, HVAC, and other similar systems. The test barrier is comprised of a temporary test barrier portion and a gasket connection portion. The test barrier may be advantageously connected to a rip cord that enables easy removal of the test barrier upon completion of any testing.

Described herein are embodiments of methods and apparatus for determining the SoC and SoH a lithium ion battery and for restoring capacity to a lithium ion battery. Some embodiments provide a method and apparatus including an ultrasound transducer designed to measure characteristics of a lithium ion battery in order to determine the SoC and SoH of the lithium ion battery, and to disrupt the SSEI layer inside the lithium ion battery. Several other methods for determination of SoC and SoH and disruption of the SSEI layer are also described. Use of such methods and apparatus may be advantageous in assessing a state of the lithium ion battery, as well as rejuvenating a lithium ion battery and increasing its life span.
