A pump that has a flangeless valve plate, meaning that the valve plate has no flange through which bolts that secure the head to the pump extend. The pump has eccentrics and pistons that all have holes in them so that the pistons at opposite ends of the pump can be assembled to the shaft of the motor 180&#xb0; out of phase. The pump further has a monolithic head that includes the two head members of the pump and the tube that connects them also has an integrally formed port. The pump is supported by elastomeric tubular members from its ports. The pump has a push-in fitting that can be pushed into a hole in a member such as the head, the housing or the base so that once pushed in, a ring around the fitting expands outwardly behind an edge of the body to trap the fitting in the opening.

Pump

A compressor or vacuum pump fluid intake manifold has fluid intake and a pair of ports provided by male and female fittings that are slidably engaged to one another. The male fitting has a portion which forms a hollow plug which fits within a respective fluid intake of the compressor housing. The plug portion, or plug, is integrally molded with a longitudinal section of the male fitting member. In similar fashion, the female fitting includes a plug portion which interfaces with a fluid intake in the compressor housing. The plug portion is integrally molded with a longitudinal portion of the female fitting. In one embodiment, each of the plugs includes three extending flanges forming an integral portion of the plug. Two of the three flanges provide a contact pressure seal with portions of the compressor housing that define the fluid intakes which receive the plugs. The other flange serves to prevent the plugs from slipping out of the fluid intakes during normal use of the fluid intake manifold. Further, instead, each of the plugs can have a raised insert surface defining a groove with an O-ring and a flange integral with and extending from a surface of the plug.

A compact 180&#xb0; opposed piston pump/compressor minimizes axial spacing between its pistons on the drive shaft and thereby reduces the shaking couple and noise from reciprocation. Each piston has its own eccentric element press-fit into the connecting rods so as not to occupy space between the pistons. The shaking couple can be further reduced for pistons of different masses by selecting the mass of the cup retainers to compensate for the difference in overall piston masses. The pump also includes an improved cylinder sealing arrangement having a circumferential groove in an angled surface at the end of the cylinder. The pump also has a special cover and seal for closing the open neck of the pump crankcase and an improved multi-lobed valve stop. The pump further uses tubular transfer members for transferring intake and/or exhaust air into the crankcase and/or between valve heads.

A two-cylinder air compressor has a motor with a through drive shaft. Identical housings are provided at each end of a cylindrical spacer sleeve that surrounds the motor. The housings include cylinder housing extensions each of which mounts a cylinder sleeve, a valve plate, and a head. The heads are part of a one-piece cylinder head member. Wobble pistons are mounted on each end of the motor shaft and operate in the cylinder sleeves. The cylinder sleeves rest on a floor in the housing which has integrally formed passages for cooling air to circulate around the cylinder sleeves. The one-piece cylinder head member includes integral tubes connecting the heads. The integral tubes span the distance between the beads and are spaced from the outside of the spacer. The housings may be joined by through bolts or without bolts by press fitting the bearings in the housing, press fitting the housings to the spacer sleeve, and press fitting the motor shaft into the bearings. The one-piece cylinder head serves as the final retention member, clamping the housings axially while maintaining radial orientation.
