A method of producing a stretch film includes at least: extruding a first random copolymer polypropylene (RCPP) resin from a first extruder at a first temperature to at least one primary channel inside of a feedblock; extruding a second RCPP resin from a second extruder at a second temperature to at least one secondary channel, wherein said second temperature is greater than said first temperature; combining the first RCPP resin and the second RCPP resin to create a layered stream using a combining adapter disposed in communication with the feedblock; passing said layered stream from the combining adapter to a die; and passing the layered stream through said die to a casting unit. A multi-layered stretch film includes at least one nanolayer section, the nanolayer section comprising alternating substantially adjacent layers of a first random copolymer polypropylene (RCPP) resin and a second RCPP resin.

High performance cast power stretch films with enhanced application and end-use properties

Pre-stretched films may be used to increase the rate at which loads can be wrapped and to minimize the exertion required when using traditional handheld film. However, the edges of pre-stretched films are easily damaged, which may result in tearing or failure of the film during use. The present disclosure describes devices, systems, and methods for folding the edges of the film, resulting in a film that is less susceptible to damage and easier to use.

The invention is directed to a polypropylene resin, which is suitable for manufacturing an air quenched blown film. The resin has a melt flow rate of greater than 5 g/10 min, less than 2% xylene solubles, a pentad isotacticity of greater than 95%, an isotactic pentad/triad ratio of greater than 95%, a crystallinity of at least 65%, and a crystallization temperature of at least 127&#xb0; C. The polypropylene resin contains from 500 ppm to 2500 ppm of a nucleator/clarifier additive. An quenched blown film made from resin exhibits a crystallization onset temperature of at least 116&#xb0; C. and a crystallization half-life time of less 4.1 seconds or less when tested using fast DSC analysis with a scan rate of 200&#xb0; C./minute.

Polypropylene composition for air quenched blown films

An issue with conventional stretch films is that the edges of the film can be easily damaged, which may result in tearing or failure of the film during use. Folding the film edges may reduce such damage but yields uneven rolls of film that are difficult to unwind. The present disclosure describes in-process devices, systems, and methods for oscillating the film to prevent stacking of the folded edges as the film is wound onto a film roll. The present disclosure also describes in-process devices, systems, and methods for entrapping air between the layers of film as they are wound onto a film roll. As a result, the film is less susceptible to damage and easier to use.

Stretch films which exhibit good puncture and impact resistance while also exhibiting resistance to defect propagation are desired. The films of the present invention have an ultimate stretch of at least 200 percent, a dart impact strength of at least about 700 gms/mil and a catastrophic failure stretch of at least 95 percent of the elongation to break value (CF of 5 or less). The films preferably comprise at least 3 layers and preferably comprise at least 50 percent by weight of polyethylene polymers.

A peelable seal comprises a mixture of at least two immiscible polymers. The first polymer forms a continuous phase in the peelable seal, whereas the second polymer is dispersed in the continuous phase. For example, a peelable seal can also be made from a mixture of an ethylene polymer with a melt index in the range from about 0.1 to about 20 g/10 minutes and a propylene polymer with a melt flow rate in the range from about 0.01 to about 2 g/10 minutes. The two polymers define a shear viscosity differential: &Dgr;&equals;&verbar;(&eegr; &minus;&eegr; )/&eegr; &verbar;, wherein &eegr; and &eegr; are the respective shear viscosity for the first and second polymers at a temperature of 230&deg; C. and a shear rate of about 100 radian/second. Preferably, the shear viscosity differential is less than about 100%.
