Malicious behavior of a device on a local network may be detected. A data stream from a device may be collected. A functional group may be created using behavioral data of devices of a known type. A behavior profile for the functional group may be generated and stored in a database. The data stream of the device is compared to the behavior profile of the functional group. A malicious behavior is indicated for the device in response to determining that the device's current behavior is not within a predetermined or configurable threshold of the behavior profile.

In a system for extracting policy information from text, a processor analyzes if the text is relevant to a top-level category, and then determines if at least a portion of the text is relevant to categories and subcategories within a taxonomy of categories and subcategories related to the top-level category. If at least a portion of the text is determined to be relevant to the category/subcategory, a classifier extracts policy information associated with the category/subcategory. Using text that includes a known policy the classifiers can be trained to correctly recognize categories/subcategories, and the values associated therewith.

Methods and systems for administering a browser store for computing device web browser applications, particularly browsers featuring tabbed viewing of web pages. A qualifying trigger event, such as a change in the current active tab of the browser, or a navigation to a URL in the active tab, is detected by an exemplary system. The system, having been monitoring user interaction with the browser's tabs, regulates the browser store such that, upon detecting a trigger event, only data (e.g., cookies) pertaining to the web site whose web page is presently displayed in the browser's active tab is retained. Any other data unrelated to the web site is copied to a virtual memory for future reference and purged from the browser store. Additionally, any data pertaining to the web site that may have been previously transferred to the virtual memory is retrieved therefrom and relocated to the browser store. Moreover, any such data retrieved from the virtual memory that require updating, e.g., upon request or instruction by the site's web server, is updated or replaced as appropriate.

A mobile device tracking prevention method and system includes monitoring a mobile device for movement, determining whether an operating state of a wireless module of the mobile device should be adjusted when movement of the mobile device is detected, and controlling the operating state of the wireless module based on the determination. One or more of the actual geographic location of the mobile device, network IDs broadcasted by nearby network access points, and signal strengths of the access points as detected by the mobile device can be monitored to detect movement of the mobile device. Changes to any of these may be indicative of movement of the mobile device, which may serve as the basis for enabling or disabling the wireless module to prevent tracking of the mobile device without sacrificing user productivity.

Methods and systems for facilitating communications between user computing devices and online entities (such as web sites, advertisers, and/or advertising networks or exchanges), and safeguarding user identifiable information and ad targeting data from those entities are provided. Communications sent from user computing devices and directed to the entities are intercepted, and those communications are processed to encrypt, or otherwise remove, user identifiable information therein. The processed communications are transmitted to the intended entities, targeting data calls are received from those entities for ad targeting data associated with users of those computing devices, and at least a portion of such ad targeting data is provided to the entities when certain predefined conditions are met.
