An air conditioning unit includes a control that operates in an automatic air filtration mode of operation when commanded to do so. The control, when in this mode of operation, automatically activates an air filtration system within the unit in response to the sensing of contaminants in the air surrounding the unit. The automatic activation of the air filtration system occurs in response to an unfavorable comparison of a sensed value of air quality with an allowable limit for air quality. The allowable limit for air quality may be computed as a function of time so as to reduce the air quality required during times in which the space being heated or cooled is unoccupied.

Indoor air quality control

Isolation mountings extend in a common plane and the axis of the overhung or cantilevered load is perpendicular to that plane. The isolation mountings are located in recesses formed in the base plate alone or in both the base plate and mounting plate. Where the recesses are solely located in the base plate, installation may simply be placing a washered or large headed screw serially through the isolator, the base plate and threading the screw into the mounting plate or motor shell which remains separated from the base plate. This will be repeated for each isolator. If recesses are located in both the base plate and mounting plate or motor shell, installation simply requires placing the two bottom isolation mountings into the corresponding recesses in the base plate and mounting plate or motor shell. Then where there are upper recesses in the base plate and mounting plate or motor shell, an isolation mounting is placed in one of the recesses and compressed while the recesses and isolation mounting are moved into register. It should be noted that the other isolation mountings, being in the same plane and opposite thereto, will also tend to be compressed as the upper isolation mounting is compressed. The compression of the isolation mounting can be performed by any suitable means such as through the use of a tool which acts as a ramp or sloped surface for compressing the upper isolation mounting. When the upper isolation mounting passes the end of the ramp it is received in the other recess with at least a partial reduction of the compression of the isolation mountings in the installed position.

Isolation mounting for a cantilevered load

A plug or plenum fan is located near two walls of the plenum such that they tend to act as the scroll for the fan. Additionally, a partition separates the fan from an adjacent corner further enhancing the formation of a scroll while providing a flow passage and a location for at least a part of the active noise control structure.

Active noise control for plug fan installations

An annular isolator is provided having a metal tube which acts as a spring while defining a flow path and a resilient member located between two loading plates. The resilient member supports the weight of one of the members being coupled and the tube acts as spring as to transmitting vibration.

Isolation device and fluid connection

The angular extent of the flow path in a fan scroll is extended by reducing the rate of radial expansion of the flow path. By extending the angular as circumferential extent of the scroll flow path downstream of the fan impeller ANC structure can be located in/on the scroll while being located a sufficient distance downstream of the impeller. The flow path length can be increased without increasing the cubage of the scroll and, if desired, a further flow path increase can be achieved by a combination of the reduced rate of radial expansion together with increasing the cubage.

Fan scroll

The internal fan arrangement of an AHU is reconfigured by discharging directly from the scroll into a 90.degree. elbow. The bend of the elbow defines a converging section terminating in a throat which leads to a diverging section. Additionally, the ANC structure is located in the elbow with the noise sensing microphones being located at or near the fan outlet.
