Various example embodiments are disclosed herein. According to one example embodiment, a method may include determining, at a base station in a wireless network, an uplink channel quality for a mobile station, sending an acknowledgment/negative acknowledgment (ACK/NAK) aggregation indicator to the mobile station based on the determining, sending a plurality of data bursts to the mobile station, and receiving at least one aggregated ACK/NAK report from the mobile station.

Various embodiments are disclosed, which may include transmitting a transmission schedule for a data burst to a plurality of relay stations in a wireless relay network. The transmission schedule may identify a data channel for transmission of the data burst and a corresponding shared negative acknowledgment feedback channel for transmission of a negative acknowledgment. The negative acknowledgment feedback channel may be shared by the plurality of relay stations.

An approach provides a frame structure for supporting different operational modes. A frame is generated for transmission over a network to a first device and a second device over a first bandwidth and a second bandwidth, respectively. A macro wireless communication system includes a base station and a femto access point for communicating with user equipment (UE), such as handset, whereby the UE receives information regarding the network relationships between the base station and the femto access point. A home profile setting may be stored in the UE. When the UE communicates with a femto access point that is identified in the home profile, the UE adapts a neighbor listing provided by the home femto access point. Alternatively, the base station stores a list of the UE and its corresponding home femto access point, along with the neighbor list of the femto access point. When a UE is connected to the base station and that base station is in neighbor list of the UE's home femto access point, a message is sent to the UE to forward an appropriate neighbor list to simplify handovers.

According to one example, a method may include permuting, by a superordinate station in a wireless network, physical resource units to logical resource units, the physical resource units of sequential logical resource units being noncontiguous. The method may also include sending at least one allocation message allocating a block of sequential logical resource units to each of a plurality of mobile stations, each of the allocated blocks being contiguous with at least one other allocated block. The method may also include de-allocating at least a first block of sequential logical resource units from a first mobile station selected from the plurality of mobile stations and a second block of sequential logical resource units from a second mobile station selected from the plurality of mobile stations, the first block of sequential logical resource units being noncontiguous with the second block of logical resource units. The method may also include sending at least one re-allocation message allocating the first block of sequential logical resource units and at least a portion of the second block of logical resource units to a new mobile station.

Methods and apparatus for synchronizing frames in wireless networks are disclosed. An example method includes delaying, at a wireless relay station, a start time of a frame. In the example method, the start time of the frame is delayed, such that the relay station receives one or more data symbols from a superordinate wireless station and one or more data symbols from a subordinate wireless station at substantially the same time during the frame.

In some embodiments, the method may also include determining if a relay station (RS) is allowed to manipulate portions of the message.
