Digital to analog processing circuits ( and ) transform the half width encoded clipped signal into analog I and Q signals, respectively. The analog I and Q signals are applied to corresponding filters ( and ) prior to transmission.

Processing CDMA signals

A wireless telecommunications system includes a central station communicates with a plurality of subscriber stations served by the central station. The central station is connectable to a telecommunications network under a multiplexed multi-channel digital data telecommunications protocol having a plural number of data channels. Each subscriber station provides a line connection for carrying a predetermined number of digital data channels, where the plural number is greater than the predetermined number. The central station is connectable to each subscriber station via a wireless link under a wireless link protocol having the predetermined number of data channels. The central station includes a central protocol interface for converting between the multi-channel telecommunications protocol and the wireless link protocol for each wireless link. The subscriber station includes a subscriber protocol interface for converting between the wireless link protocol and the multiplexed multi-channel digital data telecommunications protocol with the predetermined number of digital data channels active. By converting an incoming multi-channel digital data protocol to a wireless link protocol, and then reconverting the wireless link protocol to a multi-channel digital data protocol at the other end, it is possible to provide for selective communication in accordance with the multi-channel digital data protocol, despite the limited bandwidth available.

Multi-channel digital data transmission in a wireless telecommunications

A wireless telecommunications systems (1) includes a central terminal (10) for transmitting and receiving radio frequency signals to and from a subscriber terminal (20). A downlink communication path is established from a transmitter (200) of the central terminal (10) to a receiver (202) of the subscriber terminal (20). A downlink signal (212) is transmitted from the transmitter (200) to the receiver (202) during setup and operation of the wireless telecommunications system (1). The downlink signal (212) includes an overhead channel (224) having a power control signal (236). The power control signal (236) is capable of adjusting a transmitting power of a transmitter (204) in the subscriber terminal (20). Adjustment of the transmitting power of the transmitter (204) facilitates establishment and maintenance of an uplink communication path between the transmitter (204) of the subscriber terminal and a receiver (206) of the central terminal (10).

Apparatus and method of controlling transmitting power in a subscriber

A CDMA signal processing circuit (300) includes a summer circuit (302) that receives a plurality of CDMA signals from a plurality of channels (304). The summer circuit (302) combines the plurality of CDMA signals according to a power magnitude value and power direction value associated with each CDMA signal. The summer circuit (302) generates a summed signal (306) that is applied to a clipping circuit (308). The clipping circuit (308) removes a portion of the summed signal (306) outside a desired threshold range and generates a clipped signal (310) therefrom. Digital to analog processing circuits (312 and 314) convert the clipped signal (310) into a half width encoded format. Digital to analog processing circuits (312 and 314) transform the half width encoded clipped signal into analog I and Q signals, respectively. The analog I and Q signals are applied to corresponding filters (316 and 318) prior to transmission.
