Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for improving communications between a user equipment (UE) and a base station in a shared radio frequency spectrum while the UE is operating in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode. In particular, the UE may be configured to adapt operation in a DRX mode based on whether a base station has access to a shared radio frequency spectrum. For example, the UE may adjust a length of an on-duration for monitoring for a data transmission from the base station, adjust a periodicity for monitoring for control information from the base station, determine whether to keep monitoring for wake-up signaling from the base station, etc. based on whether the base station has access to the shared radio frequency spectrum. Further techniques for improving operation in a DRX mode are also described.

Embodiments include systems and methods that may be performed by a processor of a multi-subscription wireless device for managing beam selection. Various embodiments may include determining a rotation angle between an orientation of a first beam of a first subscription and an orientation of a second beam of the first subscription, applying the rotation angle to a first beam of a second subscription to identify a second beam of the second subscription, and performing a tune-away operation comprising tuning a radio frequency (RF) resource of the multi-subscription wireless device to the second subscription and configuring spatial filter parameters of an antenna array to communicate via the identified second beam of the second subscription.

Managing beam selection for a multi-subscription wireless device

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for higher bandwidth and data rate for enhanced machine type communications (eMTC). According to certain aspects, a method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) is provided. The method generally includes determining frequency resources within one or more configured narrowband regions of a system bandwidth to monitor for a transmission and monitoring for the transmission on the determined frequency resources within the one or more narrowband regions of the system bandwidth.

Larger bandwidths and higher data rates for eMTC

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a first subscriber identity module (SIM) of a user equipment (UE) may detect that the UE is operating in a high mobility environment. The first SIM of the UE may transmit, to a second SIM operating in an idle mode, an indication that the UE is operating in the high mobility environment and an indication of a first frequency error estimation associated with the first SIM. The second SIM of the UE may operate in a high mobility mode using a second frequency error estimation that is based at least in part on the first frequency error estimation associated with the first SIM. Numerous other aspects are described.

Optimized multiple subscriber identity module mode in high mobility environments

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may monitor a first control channel in a first frequency band. The UE may determine that a bandwidth capability of the UE supports communicating on the first frequency band and at least a second frequency band. The UE may perform a channel measurement procedure on the first frequency band and the second frequency band concurrently. The UE may transmit a channel feedback message including information associated with the channel measurement procedure.

Channel quality indicator design for enhanced machine-type-communications

Techniques are described for handling collisions between uplink transmissions and downlink transmissions over a wireless spectrum. Some of the techniques allow a UE to perform a collision management procedure after identifying a transmission collision (e.g., a collision between a downlink transmission with repetition and an uplink transmission, or a collision between a downlink transmission with repetition and a guard frame for an uplink transmission). The collision management procedure allows the UE to refrain from transmitting at least part of an uplink transmission, refrain from decoding at least part of a downlink transmission, or a combination thereof. Other techniques allow a base station to mitigate transmission collisions by scheduling downlink transmissions based on received, inferred, or determined parameters of uplink transmissions.

Techniques to handle collisions between uplink transmissions and downlink transmissions over a wireless spectrum

Aspects of the disclosure relate to techniques for mitigating the decoding errors observed at the receiver as a result of puncturing symbols between consecutive subframes having the same transmission direction. To reduce the decoding errors, a plurality of transmission options, each including a number of resource blocks and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS), may be identified. In addition, each transmission option may be associated with one or more puncturing patterns that hinder decoding of a codeword at the receiver. The base station or user equipment (UE) may then select or modify at least one aspect of a scheduling decision involving the communication of the codeword in a given subframe of at least two consecutive subframes to minimize decoding errors. For example, a selected puncturing pattern or a transport block size associated with a selected transmission option may be modified.

Systems and methods for mitigating decoding errors due to puncturing of symbols

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for optimizing real time services (e.g., such as a voice over Long Term Evolution (LTE) (VoLTE)) for devices with limited communications resources, such as machine type communication (MTC) devices and enhanced MTC (eMTC) devices. In one aspect, a UE determines a first configuration of subframes within at least one radio frame available for the UE and other UEs to use for bundled communications with a BS. The UE receives an indication of one or more subframes within the at least one radio frame that are unavailable for bundled uplink transmissions, and determines a second configuration of subframes to use for bundled communications based on the indication. The UE overrides the first configuration of subframes with the second configuration of subframes, and communicates with the BS using the second configuration of subframes. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Volte optimizations for eMTC devices

Techniques and apparatus for early termination of decoding of communication channels for power saving in narrowband devices are provided. One technique includes monitoring for one or more first repetitions of at least one communication channel from a base station. The device determines, based on the monitoring, whether to refrain from monitoring for one or more second repetitions of the at least one communication channel. The device enters a low power mode if the determination is to refrain from monitoring for the one or more second repetitions of the at least one communication channel.

Power saving in narrowband devices by early termination of decoding of communication channels

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The method includes monitoring a set of master information block broadcasts from a base station to obtain a first set of samples associated with a first prior target transmission time interval (TTI) and a second set of samples associated with a current TTI, identifying a payload change in the master information block broadcasts between the first set of one or more prior TTIs and the current TTI based on a comparison between the first set of samples and the second set of samples, modifying the first set of samples based on the identified payload change, and decoding a master information block based on a combination of the modified first set of samples and the second set of samples. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

A method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may allocate one or more narrowbands for at least one downlink transmission to a UE. The apparatus may transmit information associated with the one or more narrowbands and a RIV to the UE. In one aspect, the RIV may indicate a common starting RB and a common set of RBs allocated for the at least one downlink transmission in each of the one or more narrowbands.

Resource allocation for narrowband communications using an expanded bandwidth

The present disclosure provides reduced cell-specific reference signal (CRS) transmissions for evolved machine type communication (eMTC). In one aspect, a network entity may determine at least one narrow band for transmission of a CRS. The network entity may further identify one or more resource blocks proximate the at least one narrow band and transmit the CRS on the narrow band and the one or more proximate resource blocks to a UE. In another aspect, a UE may apply a receive window to filter one or more noise samples outside at least one narrow band allocation, the receive window corresponding to one or more resource blocks located outside the defined number of resource blocks of the at least one narrow band allocation. The UE may further receive the CRS within the at least one narrow band allocation from a network entity in response to applying the receive window.

Cell-specific reference signal transmissions for evolved machine type communication

Techniques and apparatus for transmission and reception with partial allocation in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)/single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems are provided. One technique includes determining first parameter(s) to apply to transmission/receive processing of a signal, based in part on a resource allocation for the signal. The resource allocation is partitioned out of a larger system bandwidth. Second parameter(s) to apply to the transmission/receive processing are determined based at least in part on the first parameter(s). Transmission/receive processing of the signal is performed in accordance with the first and second parameters.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for hopping design for larger bandwidth allocations in enhanced machine type communications (eMTC). A method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) is provided. The method generally includes receiving a resource allocation for uplink transmission in at least one subframe. The resource allocation includes a set of allocated subframes and configuration information for frequency hopping. The method includes determining allocated frequency hopped resources, within a system bandwidth, for each subframe of the set of allocated subframes. The method includes including a center resource block (RB) in addition to the determined allocated frequency hopped resources if the determined allocated frequency hopped resources include resources around the center RB. The method includes removing a last RB from the determined allocated frequency hopped resources if the determined allocated frequency hopped resources include resources around the center RB.
