Embodiments of the present disclosure include multiple DC-DC converters configured to generate multiple voltages based on one or more voltage sources. The DC-DC converters are configured to produce a first voltage and second voltage when a first power source is active, when a second power source is active, or when both the first and second power sources are active. In example embodiments, one voltage is used by a network device to power internal circuitry, and another voltage is coupled to tethered devices.

Circuits and systems for generating power from multiple sources

This disclosure describes techniques for performing communications between devices using various aspects of Ethernet standards. As further described herein, a protocol is disclosed that may be used for communications between devices, where the communications take place over a physical connection complying with Ethernet standards. Such a protocol may enable reliable and in-order delivery of frames between devices, while following Ethernet physical layer rules, Ethernet symbol encoding, Ethernet lane alignment, and/or Ethernet frame formats.

Reliable communications using a point to point protocol

A technique is able to direct a power signal from a port power controller to one of multiple physical ports. The technique involves activating a set of port power controllers. Each port power controller is constructed and arranged to deliver power to a device through at most one physical port at a time. The technique further involves performing a set of discovery operations to discover device presence, the set of discovery operations providing discovery data. The technique further involves providing, based on the discovery data provided by the set of discovery operations, a set of switching signals to switching circuitry which is coupled to a set of physical ports. The switching circuitry is constructed and arranged to steer power signals from the activated set of port power controllers through the set of physical ports to deliver power to a set of devices.

Directing a power signal from a port power controller to one of multiple physical ports

A Managed Timing Engine (MTE) provides a primary timing output synchronized to a selected input reference from a multiplicity of input references. Additional timing outputs can be generated such that there is a programmable frequency offset (in ppb) between them and the main output. The rate (in Hz) of the outputs can be programmable. The MTE can introduce a programmable delay for periodic phase references.

Managed timing engine

A master and slave module are described that facilitate the distribution of timing, both frequency and phase over a backplane. The method is applicable over any pair of shared transmission medium. The signal transmitted from the master to the slave is suitable for delivering a frequency reference and an approximate phase. The precise phase at the slave is obtained by delaying the 1PPS by a programmable amount estimated by measuring the round-trip delay between the master and slave.

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a communication from an endpoint device at a network access device located within a data path between the endpoint device and a network, identifying a network admission control policy for the endpoint device, enforcing at the network access device, the network admission control policy for traffic received from the endpoint device, and forwarding at the network access device, traffic from the endpoint device to the network in accordance with the network admission control policy. Automatically configuring switch ports with appropriate features

A special memory overlay circuit uses a first DRAM buffer memory in combination with a second faster SRAM buffer memory to reduce the time required to translate information into different network protocols. Packet data is stored in the DRAM buffer memory and packet headers requiring manipulation are stored in the SRAM buffer memory. Because the SRAM has a faster data access time than the DRAM buffer memory, a processor can reformat the packet header into different network protocols in a shorter amount of time. Packet headers also use a relatively small amount of memory compared to remaining packet data. Since the SRAM buffer memory is only used for storing packet headers, relatively little additional cost is required to utilize the faster SRAM memory while substantially increasing network performance.
