Embodiments provide for controlling power production in an islanded microgrid system while maintaining the system frequency and implementing desired load sharing between different types of generating resources and energy storage systems. Embodiments include a controller in communication with the resources to control operation of the resources and operative to determine an optimal load balance based on load and renewable generation forecast information; transmit load and generation schedules to a generation controller that operates the resources in accordance with the schedules; calculate a frequency set point for energy storage resources in the microgrid based on the optimal load balance of the energy storage resources, droop settings, rated power, and the frequency of the energy storage resources; and to control the frequency set point of the energy storage resources to achieve the optimal load balance. Systems, apparatus, and methods for load sharing between isochronous generators and battery energy storage systems in islanded microgrids

Embodiments provide systems, methods and apparatus for improved generation control for microgrids. Embodiments include providing a microgrid management system (MGMS) having a smart generation control (SGC) system in communication with a plurality of resources and loads, wherein the resources and loads are coupled to a microgrid transmission line that is couplable to a macrogrid transmission line; performing preprocessing of the resources; determining current frequency, interchange, schedule, and area control error (ACE); monitoring and controlling the microgrid based on a system mode, a control mode, and system status; deriving a set point for active power control of resources; and transmitting control commands. Systems, methods and apparatus for improved generation control of microgrid energy systems

The present disclosure provides for distributed resource scheduling performed by an advanced resource scheduling (ARS) module implemented on a distributed grid management (DGM) server in a power system. The ARS module is configured to automatically generate a resource schedule for controllable distributed energy resources (e.g., resources that are remotely controllable by DGM server and ARS module) in a distribution network of the power system, such as power generation resources and energy storage resources, to provide power in a cost-effective (e.g., optimal) manner. The ARS module is configured to take into account the operating limits of the distributed energy resources (DERs), the cost curves of the DERs, the system load demand, and other operating constraints to determine the most economical operating plan for the DERs, using an optimization technique such as the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm.
