A fuel control system of an engine system comprises a pre-catalyst exhaust gas oxygen (EGO) sensor, a setpoint generator module, a sensor offset module, and a control module. The pre-catalyst EGO sensor generates a pre-catalyst EGO signal based on an air-fuel ratio of an exhaust gas. The setpoint generator module generates a desired pre-catalyst equivalence ratio (EQR) signal based on a desired EQR of the exhaust gas. The sensor offset module determines an offset value of the pre-catalyst EGO sensor. The control module generates an expected pre-catalyst EGO signal based on the desired pre-catalyst EQR signal and the offset value.

Universal tracking air-fuel regulator for internal combustion engines

A control system for an engine includes a stop-start initiation module and a load control module. The stop-start initiation module shuts down the engine in response to an engine shutdown request. The load control module, in response to the engine shutdown request, increases a rate at which a rotational speed of the engine decreases during engine shutdown by increasing a rotational load input to the engine by an engine accessory coupled to a crankshaft of the engine. A method for an engine includes shutting down the engine in response to an engine shutdown request. The method further includes increasing, in response to the engine shutdown request, a rate at which a rotational speed of the engine decreases during engine shutdown by increasing a rotational load input to the engine by an engine accessory coupled to a crankshaft of the engine.

Control system and method for improving engine stop-start response time

A control system includes an auto-stop module, an auto-start module, and a starter module. The auto-stop module stops an engine when a brake pedal position is greater than a threshold position and a transmission is in a drive gear. The auto-start module starts the engine when the brake pedal position is less than a minimum position and the engine stop is initiated. When the engine start is initiated and an engine speed is greater than zero, the starter module engages a pinion gear of a starter with a ring gear of an engine by reciprocally actuating the pinion gear N times between a retracted position and an extended position, wherein N is an integer greater than two.

Gear engagement control system and method

A fuel control system of an engine includes a simulation module and a control module. The simulation module generates a simulated pre-catalyst exhaust gas oxygen (EGO) sensor signal based on a simulated oxygen concentration of an exhaust gas. The simulation module determines a simulated pre-catalyst equivalence ratio (EQR) for the exhaust gas based on the simulated pre-catalyst EGO sensor signal. The control module generates a desired pre-catalyst EGO sensor signal based on a desired oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas. The control module determines a desired pre-catalyst EQR based on the desired pre-catalyst EGO sensor signal. The control module determines a cost function based on the simulated pre-catalyst EQR and the desired pre-catalyst EQR. The fuel control system is calibrated based on the cost function.

Off-line calibration of universal tracking air fuel ratio regulators

A fuel control system of an engine system comprising a pre-catalyst exhaust gas oxygen (EGO) sensor and a control module. The pre-catalyst EGO sensor determines a pre-catalyst EGO signal based on an oxygen concentration of an exhaust gas. The control module determines a dither signal. The control module determines a fuel command based on the pre-catalyst EGO signal and the dither signal.

Phase and frequency error based asymmetrical AFR pulse reference tracking algorithm using the pre-catalyst O2 sensor switching output

A method of controlling a vehicle is provided. The method includes controlling a continuously variable transmission and an engine with a supervisory controller and a powertrain controller; providing a driver input to the supervisory controller; controlling the supervisory controller to constrain the engine along a predetermined operating curve during a steady state condition of the driver input; and controlling the supervisory controller to relax the engine from the predetermined operating curve during a non-steady state condition of the driver input such that the powertrain controller coordinates an engine throttle and a rate of change of the continuously variable transmission ratio. Here, the predetermined operating curve is maintained by adjusting a continuously variable transmission ratio.
