A tangible computer readable medium of a vehicle includes object code referencing a plurality of variables, the object code for: identifying sets of possible target values based on air and exhaust setpoints for an engine; generating predicted parameters based on a model of the engine and the sets of possible target values, respectively; selecting one of the sets of possible target values based on the predicted parameters; setting target values based on the selected one of the sets of possible target values, respectively; and controlling opening of a throttle valve based on a first one of the target values. The tangible computer readable medium also includes calibration data stored separately and that includes predetermined values for the variables referenced in the object code, respectively. At least one processor executes the object code using the predetermined values to perform the identifying, the generating, the selecting, the setting, and the controlling.

Calibration systems and methods for model predictive controllers

A torque requesting module generates a first torque request for a spark ignition engine based on driver input. A torque conversion module converts the first torque request into a second torque request. A setpoint control module, based on the second torque request, generates a mass of air per cylinder (APC) setpoint, an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) setpoint, an intake valve phasing setpoint, and an exhaust valve phasing setpoint. A model predictive control (MPC) module: identifies sets of possible target values based on the APC, EGR, intake valve phasing, and exhaust valve phasing setpoints; generates predicted parameters based on a model of the spark ignition engine and the sets of possible target values, respectively; selects one of the sets of possible target values based on the predicted parameters; and sets target values based on the possible target values of the selected one of the sets.

Airflow control systems and methods using model predictive control

A fault clearing system and method for an engine control system includes a plurality of processor modules to control and monitor the engine and set a plurality of faults. The plurality of processor modules includes an electronic throttle control (ETC) module to control and monitor a throttle of the engine, and a plurality of engine sensors and ETC sensors. An ETC diagnostic module monitors the ETC sensors and engine sensors, with the ETC diagnostic module setting a low voltage induced fault. The ETC diagnostic module will also enter one of a plurality of low voltage states in response to the low voltage induced fault. The ETC diagnostic module selectively controls the ETC module and selectively clears the faults in the ETC module and plurality of processor modules upon entry into one of the low voltage states.

Method for operating an engine control module under low voltage conditions

An engine control system includes a spark bound module that determines a bounded spark value based on a desired spark value, a torque bound module that determines a bounded torque value based on the bounded spark value and a desired torque value, and an inverse torque calculation module that determines a desired engine air value based on the bounded torque value and the square of the bounded spark value. The engine air value may be one of a desired air-per-cylinder value and a desired manifold air pressure value. The bounded spark value and the bounded torque value are determined based on one or more of a plurality of engine actuator positions. Related methods for determining the bounded spark value, the bounded torque value, and the engine air value are also provided.

Inverse torque model solution and bounding

An engine control system that regulates operating of an engine of a motor vehicle includes a first module that determines whether a throttle of the motor vehicle is closed and a second module that determines whether the engine is idling while a cruise control is active. A third module selectively inhibits an RPM-based idle speed control of the engine if the throttle is closed and the engine is idling while the cruise control is active.
