The present invention relates to a method for controlling undesired rats and mice comprising the steps of placing on a first day cholecalciferol baits at bait points in an environment to be protected and leaving the baits for a baiting time at the bait points, where the baiting time is less than 10 days for the control of mice and less than 15 days for the control of rats; or where the cholecalciferol baits are placed only on the first day of the baiting time and optionally on up to 3 further times within the baiting time in the environment to be protected.

Method for controlling rats and mice with cholecalciferol baits

A packaged rodenticidal bait comprises a soft bait composition enrobed in a perforated thermoplastic film, wherein the soft bait composition comprises a blend of at least one edible fat, at least one particulate food component and at least one rodenticidally-active substance. Preferably, the thermoplastic film comprises one or more polyolefins. The perforated film used in the manufacture of the packaged bait according to the invention does not absorb fat, unlike conventionally-used paper sachets. The packaged bait composition of the invention is palatable to rodents such that rodents may take a lethal dose of a rodenticide from the bait in a single sitting.

Packaged rodenticidal bait

Rodenticidal soft bait compositions are provided which consist of a mixture, in the form of a paste, comprising vegetable flour, a fat which is not completely liquid at a temperature of 35&#xb0; C. and at least one rodenticidally-active substance. The vegetable flour is present in the mixture in an amount of at least 60%, preferably 62 to 78%, by weight based on the total weight of the mixture. The weight ratio of the vegetable flour to fat in the mixture is 4:1 to 8:1, preferably 5:1 to 7.5:1. The soft bait compositions are extremely palatable to rodents such that rodents are encouraged to consume a sufficient amount to deliver a lethal dose of rodenticide in a single sitting. Also provided is a method for manufacturing the soft bait composition of the invention.
