There is provided herein a decision support system for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the system comprising: a medical monitoring device configured to produce COwaveforms of exhaled breath of a subject undergoing CPR, and a computing unit configured to extract one or more features related to the COwaveforms and/or a trend thereof produced by said device, obtain one or more parameters/variables selected from a group of one or more background parameters, one or more physiological variables and one or more baseline parameters related to the subject undergoing CPR, and determine effectiveness of CPR and/or CPR outcome based at least on the one or more features and/or the trend thereof and on the one or more parameters/variables.

There is provided herein a system for weaning a patient from mechanical ventilation (MV), the system comprising a ventilation device and a controller comprising an interface module configured to receive two or more measured patient parameters, wherein at least one measured patient parameters parameter comprise a COrelated parameter, wherein said controller is further configured to compute an Integrated Pulmonary Index (IPI) value based on the two or more measured patient parameters and to provide a signal to the ventilation device, based on the computed IPI value, wherein said signal adjusts one or more weaning related parameters in said ventilation device.
