As described herein, a system, method, and computer program are provided for closed loop management of a network. In use, a goal state is stored for a resource in a network. Additionally, an actual state of the resource is monitored. Further, divergence of the actual state of the resource from the goal state stored for the resource is detected, based on the monitoring. Still yet, a solution to return the actual state of the resource to the goal state is determined, where the solution includes a computed activity path that returns the actual state of the resource to the goal state. The solution is then executed to return the actual state of the resource to the goal state.

System, method, and computer program for closed loop management of a network

A method for executing a network command using synchronized timers. The method includes obtaining, by a first device, a first current time value from a first timer of the first device, determining, by the first device, a time-to-execute value based on the first current time value, sending, from the first device to a second device, a first network command message including the network command and the time-to-execute value, repetitively obtaining, by the second device, a second current time value from a second timer of the second device, comparing, by the second device and in response to receiving the first network command message, the second current time value to the time-to-execute value extracted from the first network command message, and executing, by the second device and in response to the second current time value matching the time-to-execute value, the network command, wherein the first timer and the second timer are synchronized.

Metered interface

The present invention provides a technique to define objects and object instances in a dynamically modifiable table within the confines of a management information base definition. With the invention, new objects and object instances may be added to the table without changing the management information base definition at a managed device or network management system. The managed device can change the table, yet allow the network management system to access the table using an associated object identifier. The network management system can systematically step through the various objects or object instances, which may correspond to rows and columns of the table, to detect additions or modifications to the table. The various objects and object instances in the table may be individually accessed, once identified, using a unique object identifier.

Generic SNMP information collection

A method and apparatus for collecting management information on a communication network enables universal health indicators to be defined so that management information may be presented to a network operator on a management station. The universal health indicators may be defined in a top-down manner such that the definitions of the health indicators may be used across multiple network elements without changing the health indicator definitions. The health indicators may be organized in a tree-like hierarchical structure to enable additional information to be obtained about the health of the reporting network element in a predictable and organized fashion. Network element raw measurements and computed measurements are used to provide data to the health indicators, and are selected on a network technology type or MIB type basis to enable the same health indicators to be supported by multiple network technology types.

Method and apparatus for collecting management information on a communication network

Data for inclusion in a probable cause field of a telecommunications network alarm indication message is structured to comprise first and second delimited data elements respectively indicating first and second predetermined (ie standardized) probable cause codes, the first and second predetermined probable cause codes relating to one or more characteristics of an event occurring or having occurred in a telecommunications network. Methods, apparatus and computer programs for generating and for processing such data is provided as well as signals representing such data.

Probable cause fields in telecommunications network alarm indication messages

A generic fault management system and method for maintaining a list of all active alarms on a network generated by managed resources (e.g. network elements) in an SNMP environment. Active alarm tables are stored and maintained in management information bases (MIBs) associated with each of the managed resources and by a distributed management component (such as by an Element Management System (EMS)-MIB and/or a Network Management Station (NMS)-Information Store (IS)). The managed resources of the network experiencing the alarms do not need to conform to a particular alarm content or behaviour. The network can be supported on any SNMP system including both on the managed resources experiencing the alarms, and any distributed management systems monitoring the managed resources. The active alarm tables of the present invention can store any alarm that can be defined using Structure of Management Information (SMI) syntax. The distributed management components can poll the active alarm tables of the NE after a disconnect or after discovery of a new NE to maintain a current active alarm list across the entire network.
