Radio resources like spreading codes and transmission power are optimally allocated to various different types of radio channels supported in the cell including a specialized channel like a high-speed shared channel. One or more measurements made at the base station are provided to the radio resource manager. Such measurements include other-channel power, high speed shared channel code usage, high speed shared channel transport format usage, average active load on the high speed shared channel, empty buffer, excess power, and similar parameters that relate to a high speed shared channel. One or more of these reported measurements may then be used to access, allocate, and/or to regulate resources associated with the base station's cell.

A radio network controller node () includes in a first message () of a Common Transport Channel Setup procedure an indication that sharing of a common transport bearer () involved in a session of the Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service is allowed. A radio base station () makes a determination whether to share the common transport bearer () among user equipment units () situated in plural cells (C) served by the radio base station (). If the determination is positive, the radio base station () includes in a second message () of the Common Transport Channel Setup procedure an identification of an already-established channel to be used as the shared common transport bearer. The radio network controller () then uses the already-established channel as the shared common transport bearer for transmitting Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service user data to user equipment units () situated in plural cells served by the radio base station.

Method and apparatus for sharing transport channel for node serving plural cells with multimedia broadcast/multicast

A radio connection is supported between the mobile station and a source base station associated with a source cell. The mobile station transmits information to the source base station over a shared uplink data communications channel used by multiple mobiles. A handover message is received from the source base station indicating that the source base station has initiated a handover of the radio connection over to a target base station for the target base station to support the radio connection. The handover fails. In response, a message is sent from the mobile station to the source base station requesting that the source base station continue to support the radio connection without requiring the mobile station to perform a radio channel procedure competing with other mobile stations requesting a new radio connection be supported by the source base station.

Fast radio link recovery after handover failure

A radio access network facilitates transmission of a Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) to user equipments in plural cells served by a radio base station. A radio network controller includes in a first message of a transport channel setup request either an indication that transport sharing is allowed or an identification of a common transport bearer. The radio base station configures a new transport channel mapped to the common transport bearer such that it is stable with respect to other common transport channels. During operation, the radio network controller provides the MBMS data over the common transport bearer and the radio base station retransmits the MBMS data over the common transport channels to the plural cells. If the MBMS data over the common transport bearer arrives outside of time-of-arrival windows of any common transport bearer, then the radio network controller adjusts the transmission accordingly.

Facilitating efficient multimedia broadcase/multicast service in a telecommunication system

A technique for coordinating the registration of a terminal (UE) in circuit-switched (CS) and packet-switched (PS) domains of a multi-operator core network (MOCN) with multiple core networks (CN) is described. According to a method approach, a notification message indicating the necessity of coordinated CS and PS registrations for a terminal (UE) is received from a first core network (CN). In a next step, and based on a global permanent identity (IMSI) associated with the terminal (UE), a second core network (CN) responsible for CS and PS registrations is determined. A registration message for coordinated CS and PS registrations is then sent to the second core network (CN) that has been determined based on the global permanent identity (IMSI).
