An apparatus to be implemented in a user equipment (UE), the apparatus comprising hardware circuitry to activate a timer for transmitting a measurement report to a base station; output a filtered signal value from a measured signal using a first parameter; determine a trend in signal quality based on the first filtered signal value and a second filtered signal value based on a second parameter; or some processing of the values either from the first filter or from the received signal; and determine whether to deactivate the timer based on the trend in signal quality. The filtered signal can be generated using a first layer 3 filter using network-configured parameters and a second layer 3 filter using proprietary parameters. Processing of the values can also be done using proprietary parameters and techniques.

Reducing errant measurement report timer deactivation using layer 3 filter augmentation

Aspects of the present disclosure provide an apparatus and methods for operating the same that can improve out-of-sync and radio link failure handling in a W-CDMA network. A user equipment (UE) establishes a packet switched (PS) connection between the UE and a base station, wherein the PS connection includes a Fractional Dedicated Physical Channel (F-DPCH). The UE configures an in-sync threshold (Q) and an out-of-sync threshold (Q) for the F-DPCH, wherein values of the Qand Qare set higher than those of corresponding Qand Qof a Dedicated Physical Channel (DPCH). The UE further estimates a downlink (DL) Signal to Interference Ratio (SIR) based on one or more transmit power control (TPC) commands of the F-DPCH, and determines whether to release the PS connection based on a comparison of the estimated SIR and Qof the F-DPCH.

Apparatus and method for handling out-of-sync and radio link failure with fractional DPCH calls

The disclosure provides for reporting a channel quality indicator (CQI) in wireless communications. A user equipment (UE) may determine that a calculated CQI value to be reported in a current sub-frame is affected by a deterministic null scheduling on a downlink channel. The UE may determine a compensatory CQI value. The UE may report the lesser of the calculated CQI value and the compensatory CQI value in response to determining that the calculated CQI value is affected by the deterministic null scheduling. In an aspect, the deterministic null scheduling is associated with a compressed mode gap. The UE may determine whether the calculated CQI value is affected by the deterministic null scheduling by determining whether the current sub-frame is within a first time period before the start of the compressed mode gap or within a second time period after the end of the compressed mode gap.

Various aspects of the present disclosure provide for conditionally disabling discontinuous reception (DRX). For example, DRX may be disabled if there is a loss of DRX synchronization, a loss of signal radio bearer traffic, a poor radio frequency condition, a low signal-to-interference ratio estimate, a low transmit power condition, or a drop in transmit power. Various aspects of the present disclosure provide for determining that an access terminal and the network are not in synchronization (e.g., DRX synchronization), and attempting to re-synchronize the access terminal and the network. In cases where a loss of DRX synchronization involves one entity having DRX enabled while another entity has DRX disabled, DRX may be temporarily disabled until synchronization is restored. In cases where a loss of DRX synchronization involves different entities using different subframe indices, the subframe index used by one of the entities may be changed to restore synchronization.

Aspects of the disclosure are directed to estimating a signal to interference ratio. A signal energy estimate corresponding to a received data transmission is generated. A noise to interference ratio estimate corresponding to the received data transmission is generated. A bias, corresponding to the noise to interference ratio estimate, is subtracted from the signal energy estimate. A signal to interference ratio estimate is determined corresponding to the signal energy estimate less the bias, and the noise to interference ratio estimate.

A method and apparatus for radio resource control (RRC) state transitions of a user equipment (UE) are provided. For the RRC state transitions of the UE, for example, a reconfiguration message is received at the UE while the UE is in a cell dedicated channel (CELL_DCH) state of the RRC states. The reconfiguration message is configured to transition the UE from the CELL_DCH state to a non-dedicated channel state of RRC states. A plurality of acknowledgement procedures is sent on an uplink to the network, in response to the received reconfiguration message causing the UE to transition from the CELL_DCH state to the non-dedicated channel state.

The UE may also boost transmission power of a negative acknowledge transmission above network-specified power level.

Apparatus and methods of receive diversity (RxD) full cell search by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system are described. In an aspect, a first set of received energies of a first signal received at a first antenna and a second set of received energies of a second signal received at a second antenna may be separately determined. Based thereon, a set of peak energies and corresponding antenna indices, along with a slot timing of at least one cell corresponding to the set of peak energies and corresponding antenna indices, may be determined. A frame timing and a scrambling code for the at least one cell then may be determined using a respective one of the first antenna and the second antenna corresponding to each of the set of peak energies and the corresponding antenna indices, along with the respective slot timing of the at least one cell.

Methods and apparatus for wireless communication for improving the call performance and power consumption during the connection state of a user equipment (UE). Aspects of the methods and apparatus relate to receiving a transmit power control (TPC) command from a network entity and decoding every TPC slot of the TPC command. Aspects of the methods and apparatus include ceasing the decoding of a TPC slot set when the current decoded symbol of the TPC slot is in disagreement with the previous decoded symbol of the TPC slot. Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to apparatuses and methods of managing signaling radio bearer (SRB) transmissions. In one aspect, the apparatuses and methods are configured to generate a SRB packet comprising signaling information, wherein the SRB packet is configured to be transmitted on a channel according to a scheduling serving grant, determine whether the SRB packet is unable to be transmitted based on resources allocated by the received scheduling serving grant, override the received scheduling serving grant in response to determining that the SRB packet is unable to be transmitted, and transmit at least a part of the SRB packet on the channel. In another aspect, a scheduling information message to indicate whether an additional scheduling severing grant is needed is transmitted on the channel along with at least the part of the SRB packet.

Apparatus and methods of managing signaling radio bearer transmissions at a user equipment

Disclosed are systems and methods for controlling by the User Equipment (UE) downlink power in early decode termination mode. In one aspect, the UE may be configured to perform early decoding of a downlink (DL) transmission from a base station. The UE further configured to estimate a signal-to-interference ratio (SIRE) of the DL transmission. Based on the SIRE, the UE is configured to select a Transmission Power Control (TPC) command sequence for a low power mode of operation of the UE in which a receiver is powered down. The UE is further configured to activate the low power mode and transmit the selected TPC command sequence to the base station to adjust a DL transmission power during the low power mode.
