In some examples, a management controller includes a first interface through which the management controller is to provide a support service for any of a plurality of programmable logic devices in an electronic device. The management controller includes a controller processor to receive a code image to perform a programmable logic device update, where the code image comprises an identifier of a programmable logic device. In response to determining that the identifier corresponds to a given programmable logic device that is present in the electronic device, the management processor sets a multiplexer select value to control a multiplexer to connect the first interface of the management controller to the given programmable logic device. The management processor provides the code image to the given programmable logic device through the first interface and the multiplexer to update the given programmable logic device.

An apparatus is configured to perform a method for providing BLE communication capability to a legacy field instrument in an industrial control system. The method includes converting, by the BLE adapter, the information into a BLE communication protocol. A transmitter with universal terminals supports flexible connection of an RTD sensor. The transmitter includes a plurality of terminals, a first switch, a second switch, and a microcontroller. The first switch is coupled to the plurality of terminals and a current source. The second switch is coupled to the plurality of terminals and a sink resistor. The microcontroller receives an indication that a sensor is connected to an undetermined number of the terminals. The microcontroller transmits control signals to the first switch and the second switch to test a voltage differential between each of a plurality of combinations of the terminals. The microcontroller determines which of the terminals are coupled to the sensor. The microcontroller sets the determined terminals as inputs received from the sensor.

A building control system includes a central coordinator and one or more discrete air conditioner controllers configured to communicate with one or more discrete air conditioner units servicing the building. In some instances, a discrete air conditioner controller may be configured to transition between a sleep mode and an active mode. The discrete air conditioner controller may also be configured to transmit over a mesh network in the active mode and to not transmit over the mesh network in the sleep mode. The discrete air conditioner controller may be configured to transition between the sleep mode and the active mode according to a schedule dictated by the central coordinator. Alternatively, or in addition, the discrete air conditioner controller may be configured to transition between the sleep and active modes in accordance with a beacon signal received from the central coordinator.

In an embodiment, a method of routing packets at a first node in an ad-hoc network is provided. The method includes receiving, at the first node, a plurality of route-alive messages corresponding to a destination, each of the plurality of route-alive messages including a route time indicating a length of time in which a communicative connection is available between the second node that sent the respective route-alive message and the destination. The method also includes determining an updated route time for each second node. The updated route time corresponds to a length of time in which a communication connection is available between the first node and the destination through the respective second node. A second node is selected for sending a packet to based on the updated route time for each of the second nodes, wherein a node having a longer updated route time is given higher priority for selection.

In certain embodiments a communication node for a self organizing network comprises a communication interface configured to transmit data to and receive data from a plurality of nodes; and a processing unit configured to execute computer readable instructions. Further, computer readable instructions direct the processing unit to identify a sub-region within a cell, wherein the communication node is located in the sub-region; and transmit at least one data frame, wherein the data from the communication node is transmitted at a particular time and frequency as defined within the at least one data frame, where the time and frequency are associated with the sub-region.

An apparatus includes a transceiver configured to transmit wireless signals to and receive wireless signals from wireless nodes associated with an industrial process. The apparatus also includes a controller configured to initiate transmission of the wireless signals and to process data contained in the received wireless signals. The transceiver includes a diversity receiver configured to process the wireless signals from the wireless nodes. The transceiver may be further configured to perform beam-shaping in order to transmit a directional beam to at least one of the wireless nodes. Also, the controller may be configured to perform spatial routing by identifying a target of a wireless transmission and to initiate transmission of the directional beam towards a known or estimated location associated with the identified target.
