A device executing a low-latency application that uses a Wi-Fi link may switch from the Wi-Fi link to using a second link to a multi-subscriber (MSIM) PHS device. The device may access, via the second link, any one of multiple cellular links, each cellular link corresponding to a different respective cellular subscription of multiple subscriptions used by the PHS device. The application executing on the device may thus use a preferred cellular link from among the multiple cellular links. The preferred cellular link may be determined based on parameters corresponding to the plurality of cellular links for each respective cellular subscription. The parameters may be obtained from a location database. The preferred cellular link (which may presently correspond to a primary subscription) on the PHS device may be switched to be a different cellular link (which may correspond to a non-primary subscription) during execution of the application on the device.

Radio access technology management for wireless communications of multi-subscriber-identification-module (MSIM) low latency hotspot devices

A wireless device may comprise antennas and a processor configured to cause the wireless device to determine preferred antenna ports for at least one primary component carriers (PCCs) and at least one secondary component carriers (SCCs) based on performed downlink measurements of antenna ports. The wireless device may further determine support capabilities of the wireless device and perform computations using additional measurements of the antenna ports. Based on the computations, the wireless device may assign the preferred antenna ports to the PCCs and SCCs and perform uplink transmission using the assigned antenna ports.

Uplink carrier aggregation antenna contention resolution

This application describes methods and apparatus to manage data transport across multiple radio links for 5G-capable wireless devices. Under certain criteria, including performance of at least one radio link, a mobility state of a 5G-capable wireless device, and data transport requirements for a latency sensitive application session, the 5G-capable wireless device sends buffer status report (BSR) requests for one or more both of the radio links to prioritize and transition uplink (UL) data between radio links before a measurement reporting threshold is met. In some embodiments, the 5G-capable wireless device proactively sends BSR requests for radio resources before the UL data is generated by the latency sensitive application session. In some embodiments, the 5G-capable wireless device duplicates UL data for the latency sensitive application session across multiple radio links.

Data transport management for dual connectivity 5G-capable wireless devices

Disclosed are embodiments for reducing likelihood of selecting a cell identified by a Radio Access Network (RAN) Notification Area ID (RNA ID) that is different from that identifying a last or current serving cell so as to avoid an RNA update procedure; reducing Random Access Channel (RACH) transmissions for an RNA update procedure and a mobile originated (MO) data transmission in response to a Radio Resource Control (RRC) triggered RNA update procedure; and selecting a band or beam in a multi-band/beam cellular system that improves RACH efficiency.

Reducing RNA update procedures and improving RACH efficiency

Systems and methods for extending connectivity with a cellular network are disclosed herein. A UE may monitor a serving cell of the UE and a neighbor cell of the UE to determine whether there is a network condition wherein the UE is to transition to an out-of-service (OOS) state if it were to fall to a Radio Resource Control (RRC) Idle state. The UE may react by, before expiration of an inactivity period corresponding to a transition to an RRC Idle mode, initiating signaling activity with a radio access network (RAN) node of the serving cell. In other embodiments, the UE may determine, based on a number of secondary devices connected to the UE, to initiate signaling with the RAN node of the serving cell before expiration of an inactivity period and according to whether a maximum number of extensions of an extension activity period has been reached.

Enhanced cellular connectivity via opportunistic extension of RRC connected mode

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for RACH procedures to avoid excessive handover/secondary cell group failures. A base station may declare a handover and/or secondary cell group (SCG) failure and may determine that a failure threshold has been met. The base station may perform a remedial action in response to meeting the failure threshold. The failure threshold may be multi-dimensional, where a first dimension is associated with a number of handover/SCG failures and where a second dimension is associated with a time period in which the number of handover/SCG failures occurred. Further, a third dimension may be associated with a UE mobility state and a fourth dimension may be associated with whether the UE is using FR1 or FR2. The remedial action in response to meeting the failure threshold may include the base station suspending transmission of measurement object configurations for a specified period of time.

5G NR efficient FR1/FR2 operation

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a wireless device to perform negotiation of bearer type configuration and/or related parameters. A user equipment device (UE) and/or network may determine a bearer configuration and/or other parameters based on information or measurements of the UE. Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a wireless device to perform detection and mitigation of data stalls. The mitigation may occur during and/or at initiation of a data connection. The wireless device may establish a data connection(s) with a network over a Wi-Fi or cellular interface and monitor the data connection(s) for a data stall condition(s)/hint(s). The wireless device may perform a remedial action(s) responsive to detection of a data stall condition(s)/hint(s), including initiating a service recovery of the cellular interface, initiating a radio access technology (RAT) upgrade procedure, and/or initiating a handover procedure to a neighbor cell.

This disclosure relates to methods and devices for transmitting acknowledgment messages on a preferred cell in a carrier aggregation scenario. A user equipment device (UE) establishes a connection with a primary cell and one or more secondary cells, and determines a preferred cell from among the primary cell and the one or more secondary cells based at least in part on one or more quality metrics. The UE may determine the preferred cell at least in part in response to determining that transmission power of the UE has been limited due to a specific absorption rate (SAR) backoff feature of the UE. The UE transmits a notification to a network indicating that the UE intends to transmit an acknowledgement message to the preferred cell, and transmits the acknowledgment message to the preferred cell.

Transmitting acknowledgment messages on preferred link in 5G carrier aggregation

A wireless communication device (UE) may conduct wireless communications using one or more antennas according to multiple radio access technologies (RAT) associated with corresponding operating frequency bands. The UE may perform adaptive antenna tuning, for example, application-based antenna tuning for increasing the operating efficiency of the UE, which may improve user experience. The UE may periodically identify one or more applications running on the UE, the respective RATs that support the (running) applications, and which of the corresponding frequency bands are used by the (running) applications. The UE may determine the tuner device settings for tuning the one or more antenna(s) based on the (running) applications or the type and/or priority of the (running) applications, which RATs support the running applications, which of the corresponding frequency bands are used by the (running) applications, and operating conditions associated with the frequency bands used by the (running) applications.

Adaptive antenna tuning system for improving cellular call reception in mobile devices

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for enhancement of Wi-Fi calling for DSDS user equipment devices (UEs). The UE may register a first connection supported by a first SIM with IMS for VoWiFi based on a determination to prefer VoWiFi for the first SIM. The first SIM may be associated with a first subscription to a first RAN. The UE may include a second SIM that may be associated with a second subscription to a second RAN. The UE may register a second connection associated with the second SIM with the IMS for VoWiFi and/or VoLTE and initiate/receive, via the first connection supported by the first SIM, a VoWiFi call. A recommendation to handover the VoWiFi call from Wi-Fi to cellular data may be received and, based, at least in part, on the recommendation, the UE may register a second connection associated with the second SIM for IWLAN over cellular data.

DSDS Wi-Fi calling enhancements

A device, system and method for a user equipment (UE) to opportunistically utilize the wireless capabilities of a paired device. The UE is configured to establish a first cellular network connection based on a first subscription, a second cellular network connection based on a second subscription and a connection to a further UE based on a short-range communication protocol. The UE identifies a predetermined condition and transmits an indication to the further UE based on the predetermined condition. The further UE establishes a further cellular network connection in response to the indication and the further cellular network connection is based on one of the first subscription or the second subscription. The UE then declares no service for one of the first cellular network connection or the second cellular network connection based on the further cellular network connection.
