In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for determining if a mobile station is to be resynchronized on a handover from a first serving cell to a second serving cell. If so, a first downlink hardware storage may be drained to a predetermined level. This level may then be maintained during the resynchronization.

Managing audio during a handover in a wireless system

A technique includes receiving a radio block from a transmission channel. The radio block includes first data and second data. The technique includes evaluating the first data to obtain a first evaluation result, evaluating the second data to obtain a second evaluation result and determining whether the radio block is a partial block based on the first and second evaluation results.

A wireless communication apparatus includes a mechanism for estimating carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratio using a variable bandwidth filter. More particularly, the wireless communication apparatus includes a channel equalization unit coupled to a C/I ratio estimation unit. The channel equalization unit may be configured to calculate instantaneous carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratio values of a received signal. In addition, the C/I ratio estimation unit may be configured to calculate a C/I ratio estimate by filtering successive ones of the instantaneous C/I ratio values. The C/I ratio estimation unit may also be configured to determine whether a transmitter of the signal is transmitting voice data in a voice channel of the signal. The C/I ratio estimation unit may be further configured to inhibit the filtering in response to determining the transmitter of the signal is not transmitting the voice data such as during DTX mode, for example.

In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for maintaining a vocoder and channel codec in substantial synchronization. The method may include receiving a configuration message that includes rate information and an effective radio block identifier at a mobile station, coding a current radio block via a vocoder and channel codec, configuring an encoding portion of the vocoder and channel codec with the rate information after performing the coding, and then coding the effective radio block using the rate information. Synchronizing a channel codec and vocoder of a mobile station

A method of operating a radio-frequency (RF) circuitry and a signal-processing circuitry in a mobile telephone apparatus includes at least partially disabling the signal-processing circuitry while transmitting or receiving signals. In one example, a processor is efficiently disabled by generating and servicing an interrupt of relatively high priority. One advantage of this example is that preexisting, legacy code can be maintained, while still achieving the desired objectives. The processor can be enabled by generating and servicing a second high priority interrupt.

Apparatus for controlling a digital signal processor for radio isolation and associated methods

A wireless communication device reduces undesired audio underflow in a digital to analog receive path that employs time domain isolation. One or more buffers in the receive path receive processed audio samples from a signal processor. A control circuit senses when the buffers in the receive path are substantially empty. In response to a substantially empty determination by the control circuit, the control circuit instructs one of the buffers to repeat the last processed audio sample which that buffer received to reduce or avoid audio underflow.

Wireless communication system including an audio underflow protection mechanism operative with time domain isolation

A communication apparatus includes a radio frequency (RF) circuit configured to operate on an RF signal. The communication apparatus also includes a digital processing circuit and a buffer circuit having a first portion and a second portion. The digital processing circuit may operate in association with the RF circuit according to a time domain isolation technique. In addition, the digital processing circuit may perform a first task on received data and may alternately store a first set of results of the first task within the first buffer portion and a second set of results of the first task within the second buffer portion. The digital processing circuit may further perform a second task on the first set of results concurrently with storing the second set of results within the second buffer portion.
