Bentonite-based grout fluids and methods of using the grout fluids are provided. A method of using a grout fluid includes placing a geothermal conduit in at least one hole in the earth, providing a grout fluid consisting essentially of water and a bentonite-based grout, wherein the bentonite-based grout consists essentially of calcium carbonate, a bentonite, one or more grout-setting modifiers, and one or more thermally conductive materials, introducing the grout fluid into a space between the geothermal conduit and sidewalls of the at least one hole so that the grout fluid is in contact with the geothermal conduit, and after introducing the grout fluid, allowing the grout fluid to set to fix the geothermal conduit to the at least one hole, wherein after setting, the grout fluid has a hydraulic conductivity of between about 1×10cm/s and about 1×10cm/s.

Bentonite-based grouts and related methods

When treating an aqueous stream containing metal ions, the pH is often raised to remove at least a portion of the metal ions. The presence of a multiplicity of metal ions with interfering chemistries and/or varying concentrations can make the pH rise difficult to predict for a given amount of base. Accordingly, water treatment processes can comprise: providing an acidic aqueous stream comprising one or more metal ions; adding a base to the aqueous stream and increasing its pH to a first pH value; after adding the base and increasing the pH, adding an alkaline source of hypochlorous acid to the aqueous stream and further increasing its pH to a second pH value, the second pH value being about 7 or above; and removing at least a portion of the metal ions from the aqueous stream after adding the base and the alkaline source of hypochlorous acid.

Water treatment processes utilizing sequential addition of a base and an oxidant

Various embodiments disclosed relate to hydroxy-terminated poly(alkylene oxide) copolymer surfactants for use downhole, downhole compositions including the same, and methods of using the same. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a method of treating a subterranean formation. The method can include obtaining or providing a composition including a hydroxy-terminated poly(alkylene oxide) copolymer surfactant. The copolymer surfactant can include a first repeating unit having the structure &#x2014;[RO]&#x2014;, wherein at each occurrence Ris independently a substituted or unsubstituted (C-C)alkylene group. The copolymer surfactant can include a second repeating unit having the structure &#x2014;[RO]&#x2014;, wherein at each occurrence Ris independently a substituted or unsubstituted (C-C)alkylene group. The first repeating unit can have a lower molecular weight than the second repeating unit. The first repeating unit and the second repeating unit can have a random copolymer or block copolymer arrangement in the copolymer surfactant. The method can also include placing the composition in a subterranean formation downhole.

Copolymer surfactants for use in downhole fluids

Various embodiments disclosed relate to methods of separating impurities from industrial minerals using electrocoagulation and apparatuses for performing the same. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of purifying an industrial mineral composition. The method can include obtaining or providing an aqueous slurry comprising a mineral composition comprising one or more industrial minerals and one or more impurities. The method can include subjecting the aqueous slurry to an electrical current to form at least one coagulation comprising the one or more impurities. The method can include separating at least one of the coagulations from the one or more minerals, providing a purified mineral composition.

Methods of separating impurities from industrial minerals using electrocoagulation

When conducting cementing operations within confined locales, such as the annular space within a wellbore, it can sometimes be difficult to successfully deliver an uncured cement composition to a desired location. Cementing methods can comprise: providing a cement composition comprising a cement and a property control package, the property control package comprising: a filtration control agent; a friction reducer; and a setting accelerator; introducing the cement composition into a mineral exploration wellbore; and setting the cement composition in the wellbore.

Cement compositions for cementing in confined locales and methods for use thereof

A subterranean grouting method including (a) placing a sample of a grout mixture within a test container, (b) separating a sand component from the sample, (c) determining if the grout mixture exhibits a thermal conductivity within a predetermined thermal conductivity range based upon a proportion of the sand component within the sample, and (d) upon determining that the grout mixture exhibits a thermal conductivity with the predetermined thermal conductivity range, securing a conduit within a subterranean bore with the grout mixture, wherein (a), (b), (c), and (d) are carried out proximate each other at a job site.
