A system, method, and computer program product are provided for conveying availability information of a calling party to a called party. A PBX serving the telephones of the calling and called parties is connected to a presence server. In an embodiment of the invention, the presence server is also connected to a computer and/or other information device (such as a personal data assistant or telephone) of the calling party. After the calling party has left a voice mail message for the called party, the called party will subsequently retrieve the message. In an embodiment of the invention, the PBX then queries the presence server as to the availability of the calling party. The presence server senses whether the calling party has indicated his or her presence; if so, it is inferred that the calling party is probably present and available for a return call. If the presence server detects no such indication by the calling party, it is inferred that the calling party is likely to be absent. The presence server responds to the query of the PBX by indicating the calling party's likely availability (or absence) to the PBX. Based on this information, the PBX modifies the voice mail message to include a statement that the calling party is either available or unavailable.

System, method and computer program product for conveying presence information via voice mail

A system, method, and computer program product is provided for establishing real-time communications between computer users connected by a communications network. An invitation is created by a first computer. An invitation is data that proposes a communication session. An invitation can indicate the status or availability of the sending user or of some other resource. Creation of the invitation is followed by the transfer of the invitation from the first computer to at least one second computer. The invitation can be transferred electronically through the network, or physically, by the transfer of a magnetic medium bearing the invitation. The invitation contains parameters to configure an invitation communicator application for communications between the first and second computers. The second computer accepts the invitation and invokes an invitation communicator application to allow communication.

Method and computer program product for establishing real-time communications between networked computers

A system method and computer program product for redirecting a consumer (i.e., user) to a previously selected Web site is provided. In an embodiment of the invention, the user acquires a product or service from a first Web site. In the course of acquiring the product or service, the first Web site places a cookie on the user's computer. The cookie identifies the first Web site and associates it with the product or service the user has purchased. Subsequently, the user will receive a Universal Resource Locator (URL) from a second Web site offering the same product or service. When the user activates the URL, they are directed to the second Web site. In response, the second Web site searches for a relevant cookie located on the user's computer. If found, the second Web site determines from the cookie whether the user already possesses the particular product or service being offered by the second Web site. If the second Web site determines that the user already possesses the product or service, the second Web site redirects the user to the first Web site, which is specified by the cookie. If the second Web site determines that the user does not possess the product or service, the second Web site proceeds to offer the product or service to the user. As a result, a user who already possesses the product or service will not receive duplicate offers to supply the product or service from multiple Web sites.
