A system can receive input data indicating a current state of a wellbore drilling operation. The system can determine, by a set of software applications, constraints associated with the wellbore drilling operation. The system can optimize, by an optimization model and using the input data, a drilling parameter subject to the constraints associated with the wellbore drilling operation. The system can output the optimized drilling parameter for controlling the wellbore drilling operation.

Optimizing drilling parameters for controlling a wellbore drilling operation

Processes to receive user input parameters and system input parameters associated with a borehole undergoing active drilling operations to continually update drilling directions with wholistically applied optimizations to bring the actual borehole trajectory closer to the planned borehole trajectory. The processes can project ahead of the drilling assembly to determine the actual trajectory of the borehole and generate corrections to reduce the gap between the actual and planned trajectory paths. Various optimizations can be applied to the corrections to avoid overstressing systems or reducing the borehole productivity. Conflicts between optimizations can be resolved using a weighting or ranking system. More than one set of corrections can be determined and a user or a machine learning system can be used to select the one set of corrections to use as the results to be communicated and applied to the drilling operation plan or a borehole system, such as a geo-steering system.

Trajectory tracking and optimization for drilling automation

A system can generate and output boundary lines for controlling a drilling operation. The system can receive data, including an offset well surveys, measuring instrument information, and a well casing diameter, about offset wells in a subterranean formation. The system can determine reference well values. The system can generate boundary lines for the offset wells based on the received data and the calculated reference well values. The system can adjust the boundary lines, and can output the adjusted boundary lines for controlling a drilling operation.

Boundary line generation for controlling drilling operations

The disclosure presents a technique to generate a fracture model using a differential stress map and model inputs. The technique simulates the fracture model using fracture fronts, initiated at perforations of a perforation stage of a hydraulic fracturing (HF) wellbore. Each fracture front is evaluated using a propagation step of a fracture model process. Using the relative differential stress states, a fracture pattern is composited to the fracture model. At each propagation step, the total energy available from the simulated HF fluid being pumped into the wellbore location is reduced by the amount necessary to generate the computed fractures. Once the remaining energy is reduced to a level where no further fractures can be created, or if a map boundary is encountered, the fracture model process terminates. The generated fracture model can be communicated to update HF job plans, wellbore placements, and other uses of the fracture model.

Simulating hydraulic fracturing geometry propagation using a differential stress and pattern-based model

An abnormal trend detection system for detecting one or more hazards may provide for a safe and effective drilling operation as any of the one or more hazards may be avoided. Several indicators may be defined including a first, second, third and fourth indicator. The indicators are used to identify in a trend analysis abnormal trends. One or more thresholds may be defined. When a trend analysis indicates that a threshold has been reached or exceeded an alarm may be triggered, a drilling operation may be altered or a combination thereof.

Automatic abnormal trend detection of real time drilling data for hazard avoidance

Embodiments of the subject technology provide for receiving real-time drilling data comprising different drilling parameters measured during a drilling operation. The subject technology calculates a kick detection parameter based at least in part on the different drilling parameters. The subject technology detects an occurrence of a kick during the drilling operation when the kick detection parameter deviates from a trend formed by previously calculated kick detection parameters. Further, the subject technology activates an alarm during the drilling operation in response to detected occurrence of the kick to facilitate preventing a blowout.
