A method of updating an On Board Diagnostic system of a transportation vehicle comprises establishing On Board Diagnostic system access credentials for a mobile device linked to an account of a user of the transportation vehicle, wherein the access credentials are configured to serve as authorization information for access to the On Board Diagnostic system of the transportation vehicle and registering the mobile device to an On Board Diagnostic system access list. The method further comprises receiving the access credentials from the mobile device, authorizing the mobile device to access the On Board Diagnostic system of the transportation vehicle, receiving information about the transportation vehicle, and delivering an update to the mobile device, wherein the mobile device is configured to install the update on the On Board Diagnostic system.

Authenticating mobile device for on board diagnostic system access

A method of registering a telematics unit for telematics services is disclosed. The method comprises a mobile communication device of a subscriber contacting a mobile network operator (MNO) to register a telematics unit (TU) of a vehicle for telematics services, wherein the mobile communication device provides a vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle that the TU is associated with. The MNO looks up a phone number of the TU based on the VIN. A mobile communication network sends an electronic message to remove incoming voice call blocking of the phone number. The MNO then places a voice call to the unpublished phone number of the TU. The MNO then validates the subscriber. The MNO then engages in a voice dialog with the subscriber associated with the vehicle via the TU. The mobile communication network then sends an electronic message to reestablish voice call blocking of the TU.

Method for authenticating driver for registration of in-vehicle telematics unit

A communication system, media, and methods that proxy location information to location unaware devices are provided. The communication system includes a wireless device that connects to a cellular network and personal area network. The cellular network includes a Global Positioning System server that provides location information based on the current location of the wireless device. A location-unaware device communicates with the wireless device to receive location information via the wireless device when the wireless device is within a predetermined distance of the location-unaware device. The location unaware device connects to a service database to store the location information and queries the service database to complete communication requests generated by a plain-old-telephone-system device that is connects to the location unaware device.

A wireless communication system wirelessly receives a Frequency Modulation (FM) signal including audio data and Radio Data System (RDS) data. The wireless communication system audibly plays the audio data and graphically displays the RDS data from the FM signal. The wireless communication system also audibly captures user data. The wireless communication system then wirelessly transfers the captured user data for delivery to a server over the wireless communication session.

A method, system, and medium are provided for operating a computing device and a mobile device to access computer software with a secure access and to access a packet network, and for operating a computer software on a mobile device with different computing devices. A mobile device is used to authenticate a user's access to computer software. The computer software may reside on the mobile device, the user's computing device, or another computing device. A unique identifier is stored in the mobile device associated with the computer software to enable the authentication.

Computer-readable media, computerized methods, and a touchscreen device manipulating user-input elements are provided. Generally, manipulation includes identifying a predefined configuration associated with a request received from a user and/or application, deriving configuration settings from the predefined configuration, and transmitting the configuration settings to an electromechanical device that adjusts a portion of user-input elements to an extended orientation and activates a portion of user-input elements. In embodiments, the extended user-input elements positioned in the extended orientation are activated, while the remainder are set to an idle condition. Typically, the extended user-input elements produce outwardly-extending protrusions expressed at a flexible touchpad incorporated in the touchscreen device. These outwardly-extending protrusions may replicate keys of a standard keyboard and correspond with the presently-running application implemented on the touchscreen device. User-initiated actuations of activated user-input elements provide a tactile feedback that substantially simulates a click generated by standard keyboard keys.

In the event the second WiMAX modem is removed, network connectivity provided by the first WiMAX modem is maintained.

Communication systems, media, and methods for authenticating and registering unauthenticated electronic devices are provided. The communication systems include authorized electronic devices that proxy authentication and registration for one or more unauthenticated electronic devices. The unauthenticated electronic devices connect to the authenticated electronic device over a personal area network and initiate a communication session&#x2014;via the authenticated electronic devices&#x2014;with an authentication server located on a secure broadband wireless network that connects the one or more authenticated electronic devices. When the authentication server authorizes the unauthenticated electronic devices to access the secure broadband wireless network, network configuration data is communicated to the unauthenticated electronic devices via the authenticated electronic devices.

Computer-readable media, systems, and methods for automated device activation are described. In embodiments, an activation message is received from a non-provisioned mobile device identifying a user account. In various embodiments, it is determined whether activation is authorized and, if it is determined that activation is authorized, the non-provisioned mobile device is activated. In various other embodiments, it is determined whether activation is authorized by sending a confirmation message to a provisioned mobile device and receiving an authorization message from the provisioned mobile device.

A method, system, and medium are provided for operating a computing device using an operating system (OS) installed on a mobile device, or operating the computing device using the OS installed on the mobile device and accessing the Internet through the mobile device. An OS is pre-installed on a mobile device. A computing device that is connected to the mobile device may initialize and operate the OS installed on the mobile device. In another embodiment, the computing device may operate the OS and access the Internet through the mobile device.
